Clinton Crime Update: House Select Committee On Benghazi Summons Hillary To Testify

Benghazi Panel Summons Clinton – Washington Examiner

.

.
A House panel Tuesday formally requested Hillary Clinton to testify about the private server and email account she used while serving as secretary of state.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi, sent a request to Clinton’s personal attorney, David E. Kendall, requesting that Clinton appear before the committee no later than May 1 for a transcribed interview about the server and email.

The request comes after Kendall told Gowdy that the server had been wiped clean and that it would be impossible to recover the 30,000 emails Clinton deleted last year.

Gowdy, in his request to Kendall, also asked Clinton to “reconsider” her refusal to turn over the server to a neutral third party, which he called “highly unusual, if not unprecedented.”

Clinton said she only deleted personal emails and turned over every work-related message to the State Department, which is reviewing the data to filter out classified information.

“Because of the Secretary’s unique arrangement with herself as it relates to public records during and after her tenure as Secretary of State.” Gowdy wrote, “this Committee is left with no alternative but to request Secretary Clinton appear before this Committee for a transcribed interview to better understand decisions the Secretary made relevant to the creation, maintenance, retention, and ultimately deletion of public records.”

In Tuesday’s letter, Gowdy warned that Clinton’s decision not to turn over the server, “the House of Representatives as a whole will need to consider its next steps.”

Rep. Elijah Cummings, of Maryland, who serves as the top Democrat on the Benghazi panel, said in a statement to the Washington Examiner that Gowdy’s depiction of Clinton is inaccurate because Clinton has always been willing to talk to the panel under oath.

“Secretary Clinton agreed to testify months ago – in public and under oath – so the Select Committee’s claim that it has no choice but to subject her to a private staff interview is inaccurate,” Cummings said. “Rather than drag out this political charade into 2016 and selectively leak portions of a closed-door interview, the Committee should schedule the public hearing, make her records public and re-focus its efforts on the attacks in Benghazi.”

The House has the power to subpoena the server, but neither Gowdy nor House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will say whether it will use that authority. Boehner has demanded Clinton turn over the server.

Gowdy said he wants a neutral party to examine the deleted emails to find out of there is any information related to the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The House panel wants to examine the State Department’s role before, during and after the attack.

Gowdy noted in the letter that even though Clinton said she deleted the emails, it is “technically possible,” to retrieve them.

Bad News For Barack And Hillary – Leon Panetta And Michael Morell Endorse Benghazi Select Committee

Panetta And Morell Endorse The Select Committee Investigation Of Benghazi – Powerline

The case against a Select Committee investigation of Benghazi took a hit when former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell agreed that the investigation is a good idea. Panetta was Defense Secretary at the time of the Benghazi attack; Morell was Deputy CIA Director at that time.

.

.
Speaking at a press conference, Panetta said there needs to be an investigation to lay out the full story to the public. “The problem has been sometimes bits and pieces of information keep coming out” that raise more questions, he explained. Panetta added that he hopes House Democrats participate.

Morell, speaking at the same press conference, concurred. He stated:

It might be surprising for you to hear me say this, but I am a supporter of the creation of this committee because I want all the facts to come together in one place and be presented… as one thing, so the American people can see all of this.

Panetta and Morell are saying, in effect, that they have nothing to hide – Panetta in terms of the lack of a military response; Morell in terms of an intelligence failure and/or an intelligence doctoring.

Can the same by said for then-Secretary of State Clinton and for the White House? Or do they have things they want to hide? If they don’t, then they too should welcome the Select Committee investigation, or at least not bad-mouth it. And House Democrats should be willing to participate.

It has always been a bad idea for the Dems to boycott the Select Committee investigation. Now that Panetta and Morell have endorsed that investigation, it’s a terrible idea.

Speaker Boehner Names Republican Members Of Benghazi Select Committee

Boehner Names Members For Benghazi Select Committee – Weekly Standard

.

.
The office of the speaker of the House released this list of members chosen for the Benghazi Select Committee:

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today named the seven Republican members of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. The Select Committee also provides for five Democratic members, and those names will be released when provided by the House Minority Leader. Boehner issued the following statement:

“This investigation is about getting answers for the families of the victims and for the American people. These members have each demonstrated a commitment to this goal, and I have confidence that they will lead a serious, fact-based inquiry. As I have expressed to each of them, I expect this committee to carry out an investigation worthy of the American lives lost in Benghazi. I also urge my Democratic colleagues to treat this tragedy with the proper respect and appoint members so that we can finally, on a bipartisan basis, get answers, provide accountability, and help deliver justice. It is critical that this committee do its work in a focused, timely manner, so that the House can continue to make the economy and job creation its priorities.”

The Republican members of the Select Committee will be:

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman
Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN)
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS)
Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL)
Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL)
Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA)

FINALLY! Trey Gowdy To Head Select Committee On Benghazi

Boehner To Appoint Special Benghazi Committee With Trey Gowdy In Charge – Townhall

.

.
After more than two years of stonewalling from the Obama administration, House Speaker John Boehner has confirmed he will appoint a Special Committee to investigate Benghazi with Congressman Trey Gowdy leading the way. The Weekly Standard was the first to report a possible announcement of a Select Committee earlier this morning.

Here is the full statement from Boehner on the Select Committee:

“Americans learned this week that the Obama Administration is so intent on obstructing the truth about Benghazi that it is even willing to defy subpoenas issued by the standing committees of the People’s House. These revelations compel the House to take every possible action to ensure the American people have the truth about the terrorist attack on our consulate that killed four of our countrymen. In light of these new developments, the House will vote to establish a new select committee to investigate the attack, provide the necessary accountability, and ensure justice is finally served.

“The administration’s withholding of documents – emails showing greater White House involvement in misleading the American people – is a flagrant violation of trust and undermines the basic principles of oversight upon which our system of government is built. And it forces us to ask the question, what else about Benghazi is the Obama administration still hiding from the American people?

“The House committees that have been investigating this attack have done extraordinary work, using their subpoena power, holding dozens of hearings, and conducting hundreds of interviews. Without this work we would not know much that we do today. But it’s clear that questions remain, and the administration still does not respect the authority of Congress to provide proper oversight. This dismissiveness and evasion requires us to elevate the investigation to a new level. I intend for this select committee to have robust authority, and I will expect it to work quickly to get answers for the American people and the families of the victims.

“Four Americans died at the hands of terrorists nearly 20 months ago, and we are still missing answers, accountability, and justice. It’s time that change.”

Speaker Boehner Pressured By Special Forces Group To Appoint Select Committee On Benghazi

As Benghazi Anniversary Nears, Boehner Pressed For New Probe On Attack – The Hill

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other House Republicans are coming under increasing pressure to create a special investigative panel ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Benghazi terror attacks.

A group of special forces veterans has spent $5,800 for three giant billboards scheduled to go up in Boehner’s district this week. And another conservative group plans to hold a day-long commemoration at the steps of the Capitol on Sept. 11.

“If 4 Members of Congress were KILLED in Benghazi would we have a Watergate-style Select Committee today?” ask the billboards, which feature photos of Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). “Demand Justice for Benghazi.”

.

The billboards, sponsored by Special Operations Speaks, call on lawmakers to sign a discharge petition forcing a vote on legislation from Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) that would create a select committee.

Boehner is the main obstacle to the legislation, which would take power away from the lawmakers he has placed at the helm of committees with oversight over the State Department and U.S. foreign policy.

Special Operations Speaks this month also called on its supporters to question lawmakers on camera during their summer town hall meetings about whether they support a discharge petition from Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) that bucks Boehner and forces a vote on Wolf’s bill.

The month-old petition only had two co-sponsors in addition to Stockman when Congress broke for recess, and even Wolf opposes it.

“Get some video,” Special Operations Speaks said on Facebook. “We don’t care if they walk away, say no – as long as they do in on camera. Cell phone video works.” The group’s Facebook page has received more than 200,000 “likes.”

A spokesman for Special Operations Speaks told The Hill that it welcomes cash donations and in-kind contributions of ad space in any district, but that “the strategy is to go after Republicans first.”

Even ostensible GOP allies on Benghazi have been targeted for criticism.

When Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) told Fox News last week that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lied about Benghazi during a closed-door meeting with lawmakers, the group called him out for his reluctance to join Stockman.

“RepKinzinger getting headlines for outing HillaryClinton screaming fit,” Special Operations Speaks tweeted Friday. “Why hasn’t he signed the DischargePetition.”

Separately, the group Patriots4America will commemorate the attack on the U.S. mission that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11 starting at 12:30 p.m. on the west lawn of the Capitol.

Confirmed event speakers include 2012 Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R), Utah congressional candidate Craig Bowden (R) and Louisiana Senate candidate Rob Maness (R).

Meanwhile, a State Department source tells The Hill the agency is split between those who want to commemorate the Benghazi tragedy and those who are wary of further politicizing it.

Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry paid tribute to the Benghazi victims at an American Foreign Service Association Memorial Plaque Ceremony during this year’s Foreign Affairs Day, on May 3.

Shame Campaign: Demand Your Congressman Support A Select Committee On Benghazi Via Twitter, Facebook

Call To Action: List Of Twitter Accounts For GOP Reps Not Supporting Benghazi Select Committee – Pat Dollard

DEMAND THEY SUPPORT A SELECT COMMITTEE FOR BENGHAZI!

By Jeff Rainforth aka iResistAll on Twitter

In an effort to get more GOP House members to support H.Res.36, the Select Committee for the Benghazi scandal, activists who are involved in keeping this story in the news are urging a “shame campaign.”

What this entails is contacting GOP House members on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. These are social networking sites that are fully visible to the public. We want GOP representatives in the House to be ashamed for not supporting a full investigation into the unnecessary deaths of four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and two former Navy SEALs who fought to the death trying to fend off the terrorist attackers. Currently, 160 GOP House members out of 234 have pledged support for the committee. We need more of them to pledge support to overcome the objections of House leader Boehner.

A select committee strengthens subpoena powers so that people with knowledge of the attacks, and the subsequent cover-up by the Obama administration will have to come in and testify. Without the subpoena powers, those involved can choose to testify or not, and it’s most likely they won’t as they fear a backlash from the administration.

Below is a list of links to all GOP House members who have NOT pledged support for a Benghazi Select Committee. Phone numbers to their offices are also listed. Please Tweet them, and engage them on Facebook. We will publicly shame them into supporting the committee which will investigate why help wasn’t sent when it could have been to save the four Americans who died brutal, incomprehensible deaths protecting their own. Justice for the Benghazi four.

GOP House members are listed in alphabetical order. If there is no link to a congressperson’s Twitter or Facebook accounts, then they do not have one.

If you don’t know who your congressperson is, use this tool to find them.

Now, Tweet/Facebook your congressperson and tell them to support Hres36, the Select Committee for Benghazi!

700 Retired Military Special Ops Tell Congress To Form Select Committee On Benghazi

700 Retired Military Special Ops Tell Congress To Form Select Committee On Benghazi – Big Peace

Seven hundred retired Military Special Operations professionals from the organization “Special Operations Speaks” sent a letter to the House of Representatives urging members to support H.Res 36, which will create a House Select Committee to investigate last September’s deadly terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.

.

“It appears that many of the facts and details surrounding the terrorist attack which resulted in four American deaths and an undetermined number of American casualties have not yet been ascertained by previous hearings and inquiries,” the letter states. It continues further, “Additional information is now slowly surfacing in the media, which makes a comprehensive bipartisan inquiry an imperative. Many questions have not been answered thus far.” The letter puts forth over twenty unanswered questions the select committee should address.

Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA), a sub-committee chairman on the House Appropriations Committee, issued a resolution for a House Select Committee to investigate issues surrounding the Benghazi Attack last November in the 112th Congress. He re-issued his resolution for the select committee when the 113th Congress began. The resolution currently has over 60 co-sponsors.

Only Speaker John Boehner (R–OH) can appoint a Select Committee and Boehner appears to mainly rely on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to investigate the Benghazi attack. However, any information that may be garnered from that committee will, as always, remain classified.

“As a retired Special Operations officer who spent most of my thirty-six years preparing for and executing rescue missions to save fellow Americans, I am deeply troubled by the events in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. The men and women who I served with lived by an ethos that pledged to never leave a fallen comrade and to make every effort to respond when a fellow American was threatened. I have seen men take great risks to save a fellow warrior. I have even seen men die trying to do so,” wrote General William G. ‘Jerry’ Boykin in a statement to Breitbart News.

Boykin added, “The lack of accountability regarding the Benghazi event disturbs me greatly and bears the earmarks of a cover up. America is entitled to a full accounting of this egregious attack on our people with some explanation as to why there was no effort to save the Americans in the US Embassy annex and the CIA station, or at least to recover their bodies before they fell into Libyan hands. Our Congress has yet to fulfill its responsibility to provide a complete analysis of the attack or to provide answers as to what exactly happened. A bi-partisan Special Committee is needed to determine the truth about Benghazi.”

Last month, Rep. Wolf, along with Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-PA), a House and Ways and Means Committee member, sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry demanding more information on State Department employees who survived the Benghazi attack. In his letter to Kerry, Wolf noted that sources say that as many as 30 survivors of the Benghazi attack were allegedly wounded. Seven of those thirty were said to be critical injuries. Sec. Kerry confirmed he visited an injured Benghazi survivor at Walter Reed.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, pointed to Kerry’s admission as a reason why he expects to speak with Benghazi survivors. “Now that Secretary Kerry has publicly, essentially a Senator, in a post way, has chosen to visit with them, any claim that they’re not available at this point to Congress is unsupportable. And I look forward to oversight by all committees,” Issa told Breitbart News.

Since Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) first told Breitbart News in December that the Obama administration had not been allowing him or any other member of Congress to see Benghazi survivors, more Republican members, including Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and John McCain (R-AZ) are calling for survivors to be allowed to testify at hearings on Capitol Hill without fear of legal or career repercussions.

Signers of the letter believe the House Select Committee should look into a number of issues, including the lack of military response to the events in Benghazi, if any non-military assistance was provided during the attack; the number U.S. personnel who were injured in Benghazi; the current locations of survivors; the names of the individuals in the White House Situation Room (WHSR) during the entire 8-hour period of the attacks and was a senior US military officer present.

“As veterans from all aspects of Special Operations, we have no doubt that there’s a lot more to what happened in Benghazi than President Obama and his Administration are letting on. From the very beginning, he has attempted to mislead and outright lied to the American people about why the attack on September 11th, 2012 happened, how it happened, and what our government did or did not do to save the lives of our patriots abroad,” former Navy SEAL Captain Larry Bailey wrote in a statement to Breitbart News.

The representatives from the retired military community want “a full accounting of the events of September 11, 2012,” adding that the, “American public be fully informed regarding this egregious terrorist attack on US diplomatic personnel and facilities. We owe that truth to the American people and the families of the fallen.”
