NBC news president sh#@ canned

Via Stacy McCain

The New York Times spins it this way:

The longest-serving president of any of the three network news divisions, Steve Capus of NBC News, stepped down from his position on Friday, six months after Comcast restructured its news units in a way that diminished his authority.

Exactly how voluntary was this “stepping down”? John Nolte points to the scandal-plagued tenure of Capus at NBC News:

  1. During last year’s presidential election, Andrea Mitchell wascaught manufacturing a Romney gaffe where none existed.
  2. During last year’s GOP primary, Ed Schultz edited video of Texas Governor Rick Perry to make him look racist.
  3. In April of last year, the “Today Show” was caught editing audio of a 9-1-1 call to make George Zimmerman look racist.
  4. In August of 2009, Contessa Brewer sliced and diced a photograph so it wouldn’t look like a black man attended a Tea Party carrying a firearm.
  5. Just this week, NBC News maliciously edited video of a town council meeting to make it look as though Second Amendment civil rights activists heckled a parent who lost his son in Newtown.

The news is only important if it means NBC is going to actually restore journalistic standards to its news coverage, which, IMO, wold mean firing Andrea Mitchell, Contessa Brewer, Ed Schultz, and anyone else who committed these acts of journalistic malpractice. Otherwise, it is absolutely meaningless.

Senior al-Qaida official killed by bad breakfast, CIA Drone strike

Mostly the CIA Drone though

Via NBC News:

A senior al-Qaida official and potential successor to the group’s leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed Friday morning in a Predator drone strike, according to reports on jihadi web forums and U.S. officials.

Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Rehman Al-Hussainan, aka Abu-Zaid al Kuwaiti, was killed in Pakistan while eating breakfast, according to the accounts. The 46-year-old cleric was seen as part of the “very top tier” of al-Qaida’s remaining leaders in the wake of the death of Osama bin Laden, according to one expert on the terror group.

The news was first announced on an al-Qaida web forum early Friday. “We celebrate to you the news of the martyrdom of the working scholar Shaykh Khalid al-Hussainan (Abu Zaid al-Kuwaiti) while eating his Suhoor (dawn time) meal, and we ask Allah to accept him in paradise,” a post said.

Yeah, about that whole paradise thing, I think Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Rehman Al-Hussainan, Pig Fucker might be headed to somewhere else

Romney tabs Paul Ryan as his VP

Woke up a few minutes ago, checked the blog and saw that Stacy McCain had linked with news of the #hashtag that changed the world.

Everybody I talked to last Friday night at the Americans for Prosperity Summit — Aug. 3, at the terrace bar of the Washington Hilton —  said it was going to be Tim Pawlenty.

That inspired a sort of panic: “Good Lord, not T-Paw!”  When I heard that Marco Rubio had been eliminated due to “vetting” issues, I started an all-out push for Paul Ryan. One of the first people I spoke to was Suhail Khan of Americans for Tax Reform who told me, “Ryan vets. The worst thing they could come up with was that he worked as a bartender at Tortilla Coast when he first came to D.C.”

That clinched it. Driving home from the AFP Summit Saturday afternoon, I called Ali Akbar, who quickly minted the #GiveUsRyanhashtag, and I pulled off the highway to stop at a Burger King and write that “emergency” post, which was linked by Jackie WellfonderDaley GatorRoderic Deane and Troglopundit, among others.

Somehow I take great pleasure in linking MSNBS and their announcement. Mainly be cause, let’s face it, the heads of Maddow, Schultz, Sahrpton, O’Donnell, Matthews, and the rest will be exploding. I can see them now, hyperventilating, possibly foaming at the mouth, as they look for ways to demonize Ryan.

Mitt Romney’s campaign has announced that the presumptive GOP nominee has chosen House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate.  The two candidates will appear together at a campaign event in Norfolk, VA Saturday morning.

The official announcement will be in front of the U.S.S. Wisconsin — which just happens to be Ryan’s home state.

After three sources close to the Romney campaign indicated to NBC News late Friday night that Ryan would be the pick, the Romney camp issued a press release just after 7:00 am ET, stating: “Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan: America’s Comeback Team.” Around the same time, the campaign’s “VP app” also announced that Ryan would be the choice.

The Romney campaign billed the ticket “America’s comeback team” in the release announcing the decision, saying that Ryan “has worked tirelessly leading the effort to reign in federal spending and increase accountability to taxpayers.”

With recent national polls showing Romney trailing President Barack Obama, Ryan is a bold pick. He will excite economic conservatives, and is considered one of his party’s rising stars.

I know the news will hit Chris “Crazy Legs” Matthews the hardest. I can see him now, cursing his legs for not having any more Obamagasms, curled up in the fetal position, a life-sized Obama blow up doll cradled in his arms. I tell you this folks, if MSNBS was the Tree of Low-Hanging Blogging Fruit BEFORE the Ryan pick, can you imagine what it will be now.

UPDATE! Women who are not Debbie Wasserman Schultz are really excited about Ryan, Jill is seeing fireworks!

Rio Norte reminds us why Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not exactly orgasmic over the Ryan pick

Rio also has this great video of Ryan explaining the folly of examining intent, rather than results.

Great pick Mitt! For those who are afraid of the “bold” pick William Jacobson says fear not!

The left already is going crazy, but that would have happened regardless of who the Veep nominee was; only the details of the outrage would have differed.

Exactly right! The GOP ought to understand this by now. I hope that this serves to remind the establishment that they do not have to fear well articulated Conservatism. In fact they should embrace it.

Ryan puts the national debt front and center in the election, on par with or maybe even ahead of jobs. This is a winner of an issue, it’s what motivated people in 2010, and it will cause huge turnout for Romney-Ryan.  Fear not.

Bill Quick is not among those enthused by the Ryan pick.

He should stay where he is, where he has significant influence, and can actually do something toward making needed changes, rather than leaving his real power base for the bucket of warm piss that is the Vice Presidency. Not to mention giving the Obama campaign a perfect opportunity to shift the entire focus of the campaign from Obama’s horrendous economic (and other) failures to the usual “The GOP is going to kill millions of old people, women, and children, with their spending cuts to benefit the rich.”

Fair point, but, I would argue that Team Obama is going to do that regardless. The question then is does Ryan’s record add any legitimacy to that line of attack? We will see. My personal view is that the only folks who will buy Obama’s BS are already voting for him.

OK, who did not see THIS coming? UPDATED! 38% of union voters went with Walker! UPDATE!! Ed Schultz lectures union voters who voted for Walker

Gov. Walker easily wins the Wisconsin recall vote. What will Al Sharpton do?

A-Accept defeat graciously

B- Go work on his hair

If you voted C, well, you are right!

MSNBC “PoliticsNation” host Al Sharpon was the latest of MSNBC’s on-air talent to express displeasure, or put a positive spin, on Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s win in Wisconsin Tuesday night, blaming “voter-suppression schemes” for the Democrats’ loss.

“This Wisconsin recall election, I think I did my commentary from the Washington, D.C. office this morning,” Sharpton said. “It really is a wake-up call, because despite that fact that clearly money was one of the main factors, it’s not going anywhere by November. If anything, I think that it has emboldened the right wing, it has emboldened these billionaires. There was all kinds of voter-suppression schemes from ID [cards required to vote], to not letting students vote and registration.”

Sharpton told his audience that this is a sign of things to come for this fall’s general election and encouraged his listeners to “double-down and get ready to fight.”

“It almost was a test run on what they’re going to do in November,” he continued. “The question is what are we going to do about it? We can either act like it means nothing and it’s like in a fight — you got your head hit and you’re groggy and you’re going to be in denial — or you’re going to admit that somebody hit you hard, clear your head and let’s double-down and get ready to fight.”

Good Freaking Grief, these parasites are so predictable.

UPDATE! Sharpton might want to blame those damned union guys

(CNSNews.com) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says “there’s no doubt” that union members were among those who voted to keep him in office in Tuesday’s recall election.

The network exit poll for the special election showed that Walker won the votes of 38 percent of voters who said they were a union member or lived in a household with a union member.

“I’m talking to workers here this morning, talked to a lot of manufacturers across the state over the last year and a half, but particularly the last months in this campaign, and I find that at plant after plant, there are construction workers and others in manufacturing who appreciate the fact that we turned our state around. And I think they wanted more of that in the future,” Walker told Fox & Friends Wednesday morning. “They wanted us to go forward.”

The exit poll showing that Walker got 38 percent of the vote from people living in union households was conducted by Edison Research for ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, CNN, Fox News and the Associated Press.

Walker said he’s heard voters complain for years that when politicians get into office, they’re not willing to take on the tough challenges.

UPDATE!! Of course, union butt boy Ed Schultz is furious at union members who voted for Walker!

On Wednesday’s The Ed Show, MSNBC host Ed Schultz took a lecturing and even mocking tone toward labor union members who voted for Governor Scott Walker in Tuesday’s recall election in Wisconsin as he recounted NBC News exit poll numbers showing that a significant chunk of union voters supported the Wisconsin Republican.

The MSNBC host ended up invoking President Obama’s assertion from the 2008 campaign that people in rural areas vote for Republicans because of a tendency to “cling” to guns and religion, and suggested that Obama was correct in his diagnosis of what he viewed as a problem that some union members in rural areas vote for Republicans instead of sticking with the union line.

Hey Ed, pull your head out of the union bosses asses and hear this. This was not a union election Ed! People actually had a right to vote their conscience!

BC says his went off when he heard this from NBC

REUTERS – NBC News’ decision to air an edited call from George Zimmerman to police in the moments before he shot Trayvon Martin was “a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call,” according the president of network’s news division.

I think we all know that this statement is 100% pure unfiltered

If it were not intentional, then the audio would never gave been edited

As Expected, NBC News Sweeps Edit-Gate Under The Rug

As Expected, NBC News Sweeps Edit-Gate Under The Rug – Breitbart

You would think NBC News, of all outlets, would know that the cover up is worse than the crime.

Here are the key points in today’s Reuters story (pasted in full below) about an internal NBC News probe (is that the same as an investigation?) that found that a “seasoned” producer was responsible for editing the infamous George Zimmerman 911 tape – or as I like to put it, intentionally and maliciously editing audio to make a private citizen with a bounty on his head and hiding in fear for his life look like a racist.

Yes, a “seasoned” producer did this, and yet…

1. The sources described the producer’s actions as a very bad mistake, but not deliberate.

Are you kidding me? How can this not be deliberate? How can moving one piece of dialogue from here and placing it over there… not be deliberate?

Anyone who has ever done any kind of editing – audio or video – knows that nothing even close to an “oops” produced that maliciously edited 911 tape.

2. The network said on Tuesday it would not release names of the employees involved. It has apologized for the incident.

Apology not accepted.

And, yes, let’s make sure that no one in the world of media knows the name of the “seasoned” producer responsible for the media scandal of the year. That way he or she can get a job anywhere, maybe even a promotion!

3. There was no clear indication on Thursday of what, if any, disciplinary actions would be taken against the producer or other staff involved in the incident.

If no disciplinary action is taken, the standards at NBC News can only be described in one way: there are none.

If NBC News is willing to tolerate a “seasoned” producer wilfully editing audio to make a private citizen with a price on his head look racist, then there are no standards at NBC News. Actually, this will only confirm to those of us who have watched the slide of NBC News over the past decade, that there are no standards at NBC News.

4. Executives have vowed to take rigorous steps to formalize editorial safeguards in the news division following the incident, one of the sources said.

You can take all the “rigorous steps” you want, but if you keep on staff a “seasoned” producer willing to violate those safeguards, it doesn’t matter. There is a bad apple in the NBC News family and the fact that this person still has a job proves that there are a bunch of bad apples.

5. The Today [S]how’s editorial control policies – which include a script editor, senior producer oversight, and in most cases legal and standards department reviews of material to be broadcast – missed the selective editing of the call, said the NBC executive.

Translation: Blah, blah, blah.

For obvious partisan reasons, what NBC News did was to intentionally inflame racial divisions in this country by targeting a private citizen. For those reasons alone (more on that here), this scandal is much, much worse than Rathergate. The only question that remains is what’s going to be done about it?

We all expected NBC News to attempt to sweep this under the rug. But will the rest of the news media and our so-called media watchdogs let them get away with it?

There are many questions surrounding the shooting of Trayvon Martin that need to be fully investigated and answered, but that doesn’t change the fact that in this country, George Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty, has not been charged with any kind of crime, and is not a public figure. What NBC News did to this private citizen in order to aid and abet Barack Obama’s cynical re-election campaign to divide this country is unforgivable.

People need to be fired and people who refuse to fire people need to be fired.

Someone also needs to explain to NBC News that “no justice no peace” cuts more than one way.

And don’t think for a second, ABC and CNN, that we’ve forgotten about your disgraceful behavior in this matter.

(Reuters) – An internal NBC News probe has determined a “seasoned” producer was to blame for a misleading clip of a 911 call that the network broadcast during its coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, according to two sources at the network.

NBC News brass interviewed more than half a dozen staffers during its investigation of the misleadingly edited 911 call placed by George Zimmerman just before he shot the unarmed Florida teenager, said the sources, one of whom is an executive at the network.

The clip aired on the network’s flagship “Today” morning show last week.

The edit made it appear that Zimmerman immediately told police that Martin was black, when, in fact, the full tape reveals that the neighborhood watch captain only did so when responding to a question posed by a dispatcher.

There was no clear indication on Thursday of what, if any, disciplinary actions would be taken against the producer or other staff involved in the incident.

The sources at the network, who declined to identify the producer, said NBC News executives did not know the 911 call was misleadingly edited until news reports surfaced days later on right-leaning blogs including Newsbusters.org and Breitbart.com.

The sources described the producer’s actions as a very bad mistake, but not deliberate.

NBC News declined to comment on Thursday. The network said on Tuesday it would not release names of the employees involved. It has apologized for the incident.

One of the sources said that NBC News President Steve Capus would not lose his job over the incident.

The Today show’s editorial control policies – which include a script editor, senior producer oversight, and in most cases legal and standards department reviews of material to be broadcast – missed the selective editing of the call, said the NBC executive.

Executives have vowed to take rigorous steps to formalize editorial safeguards in the news division following the incident, one of the sources said.

NBC News staffers who have been working on the Trayvon Martin story for several weeks in Florida were at first “in shock” over the incident, and later furious, another source, who is an NBC producer, told Reuters.

Public pressure has been building on the network to fully explain the incident – which critics charge has inflamed racial tensions in an already volatile situation.

On Thursday, a New York Post editorial characterized the edited 911 call as “pretty damning evidence of willful misconduct by NBC News” and suggested that racial violence could ensue over irresponsible news coverage.

Television news veterans in New York said they were baffled over how the error came to be broadcast given the intense vetting such a sensitive story would normally get at a major network such as NBC.

Executives from parent company Comcast Corp, including Chief Executive Brian Roberts and Chief Operating Officer Steve Burke, who doubles as the CEO of NBC Universal, are not involved in the investigation, two sources inside the network said.

NBC’s Today – which has dominated the U.S. morning landscape for more than a decade – is currently in a ratings war with ABC’s Good Morning America, which has been picking up viewers.
