Embarrassing Setback: RINO Ryan Cancels Immigration Votes In House – Washington Times

Staring at a certain defeat, House Republicans canceled votes on their immigration compromise Thursday – an embarrassing setback for leaders who thought they had finally been able to wrangle some unanimity on an issue that has bedeviled them for years.

Lawmakers emerged from a closed-door evening meeting to say their new goal is a vote sometime next week, after they try to make tweaks to win over conservatives while keeping moderates on board.

The vote on the “moderate” compromise bill was postponed just hours after a more conservative bill failed in the House by a 231-193 vote. More than three dozen Republicans joined Democrats to kill the legislation.

Worried about a twin rejection on the same day, Republican leaders decided on a cooling-off period.

“The worst thing for us to do would be to fail,” said Rep. Tom Cole, Oklahoma Republican. “I think people desperately want to get to ‘yes.’”…

Fake News Update: Time Magazine’s Shocking Cover Of Trump And Crying Illegal Alien Child Is A Total Lie – Daily Wire
.

.
This week, TIME magazine featured a picture of a crying illegal immigrant child on its cover. The child was supposedly separated from her parents; over her looms Donald Trump, smugly staring down at her.

There’s only one problem: the cover is total bull. It’s not just total bull because Trump hasn’t implemented a newly-developed policy of separating children from parents – that’s an operation of law under the Flores settlement as modified by a 2016 Ninth Circuit court ruling. It’s bull because this particular child wasn’t separated from her mother, her mother wasn’t fleeing persecution but did falsely claim asylum, her mother did put the child in danger, and Trump was targeted by the media for treating this mother and child exactly the same way the Obama administration would have…

Supreme Court Affirms Privacy Rights Of Cellphone Users In ‘Big Brother’ Case – Fox News

The Justice Department suffered a digital-age defeat Friday at the Supreme Court, which sided with the privacy rights of cellphone users in a dispute over law enforcement tracking their movements.

In a 5-4 ruling, the court said law enforcement generally will need a warrant for such searches. Chief Justice John Roberts cast the deciding vote.

At issue is whether the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment requires a search warrant for the government to access a person’s cellphone location history. It is the latest foray by the justices into how laws should be tailored to keep up with technological advances.

The stakes were enormous, since this judicial precedent could be applied more broadly, including government access to Internet, bank, credit card and telephone records.

Roberts in his opinion said going forward, warrants are needed. “We decline to grant the state unrestricted access to a wireless carrier’s database of physical location information,” he wrote.

Charles Krauthammer, Conservative Commentator And Pulitzer Prize Winner, Dead At 68 – Fox News

.
Charles Krauthammer, a longtime Fox News contributor, Pulitzer Prize winner, Harvard-trained psychiatrist and best-selling author who came to be known as the dean of conservative commentators, died Thursday. He was 68.

His death had been expected after he wrote a heartbreaking letter to colleagues, friends and viewers on June 8 that said in part “I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me…

Supreme Court Usurps Power Of Congress, Regulates Interstate Commerce – Daily Signal

Thursday’s Supreme Court decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. threatens to upend online commerce, drive thousands of small entrepreneurs out of business, and hike prices for hundreds of millions of consumers.

Under prior law, states could not force remote retailers to collect and remit sales taxes on their behalf unless the business had a “physical presence” within the state. This requirement no longer applies, potentially saddling remote retailers – many of whom are small businesses – with onerous compliance costs related to the nation’s 12,000 plus taxing jurisdictions, many with their own rates, bases, rules, and regulations.

Congress remains the proper place to address the issue of online sales taxation. Under the commerce clause of the Constitution, Congress alone possesses the ultimate power – delegated by the states at the nation’s founding – to regulate interstate commerce.

Thursday’s ruling further highlights the need for congressional action adequately balancing the interests of competing stakeholders with national economic growth…

President Trump Draws Impressive Crowds To Duluth Campaign Rally – Brainerd Dispatch

It wasn’t easy getting into the Trump campaign rally Wednesday, June 20, at the Amsoil Arena, situated on Duluth’s harbor front.

But they came, thousands of of them – Trump supporters and anti-Trump protesters alike; throngs of red Make America Great Again hats and white Guy Fawkes masks, with a whole spectrum of human beings in between.

They fought their way through clogged thoroughfares despite the closed exits. They wove their way into limited parking spots throughout downtown, then they took the detours by foot when “the blue bridge” (a pedestrian lift bridge spanning Minnesota Slip) closed down. And they waited – many of them for more than four hours – in 80-degree temperatures…

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich Resigns After ‘Consensual Relationship With An Intel Employee’ – USA Today

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich resigned suddenly after a “past consensual relationship with an Intel employee” came to light, the company said Thursday.

His unexpected exit comes after an internal and external investigation ordered by the company “confirmed a violation of Intel’s non-fraternization policy, which applies to all managers,” Intel said in a statement.

“Given the expectation that all employees will respect Intel’s values and adhere to the company’s code of conduct, the board has accepted Mr. Krzanich’s resignation,” Intel said.

Intel chief financial officer Robert Swan, a former CFO of eBay, was appointed as interim CEO.

Details of Krzanich’s relationship were not immediately disclosed, including the identity of his romantic partner. His departure comes amid heightened scrutiny of workplace relationships between powerful corporate executives and their colleagues…

Florida law enforcement officials arrested a man on Thursday who allegedly called the office of Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) and threatened to kill his kids over the media’s recent hysteria over the child-separation immigration policy.

Laurence Key, who is accused of calling Mast’s office 478 times, allegedly told an intern at Mast’s office, “I’m going to find the congressman’s kids and kill them,” The TC Palm reported.

Key continued, allegedly saying, “If you are going to separate kids at the border, I’m going to kill his kids.”

Illegal Aliens Fatally Separate American Parents And Children – Daniel Greenfield

In 2008, Colorado separated a Jewish boy from his parents.

Marten Kudlis was separated from his parents while waiting for his mother to bring him his ice cream. The 3-year-old boy who had just been playing in the park never got his ice cream.

Instead Francis Hernandez, an illegal alien driving 81 miles an hour, slammed into a pickup truck, killing the two women inside, and smashing it through the glass wall of the Baskin Robbins.

Blood and broken glass covered the floor. Little Marten, who had just learned to ride a bike, died of a slashed jugular vein and was buried with a teddy bear.

Francis Hernandez had been arrested 16 times in 5 years without ever being turned over to immigration authorities. That failure to enforce immigration law separated a little boy from his family forever.

Advocates for illegal migration claim to be outraged by family separation…

Disney Ups Its Bid For Fox To $71.3 Billion – Deadline Hollywood

The Walt Disney Company has boosted its bid for the studio and cable network assets of 21st Century Fox to $71.3 billion in cash and stock.

The offer is nearly $19 billion richer than the one Fox accepted last December, and it’s nearly 10% ahead of the $65 billion one Comcast submitted last week. Most analysts and industry observers had expected Disney to match Comcast, but not go so much higher.

The aggressive counter is a sign of the intensity of the M&A climate, in which AT&T finally closed its purchase of Time Warner and other traditional media companies are urgently seeking dance partners.

Disney is offering $38 per share in cash and stock, and taking on $13.8B of Fox’s net debt, which would increase the total transaction to $85.1B. It announced the counter on the same day that Fox’s board was scheduled to meet and assess the Comcast bid for the company…

Gosport Hospital Deaths: Up To 650 Patients Died After Being Prescribed Opioids ‘Without Medical Justification’ – Portsmouth News

At least 456 patients died after being given opioids ‘without medical justification’ at a Gosport hospital where ‘there was a disregard for human life,’ a major report has found. Another 200 ‘probably’ had their lives shortened at Gosport War Memorial hospital as a direct result of the prescribing the drugs without justification.

On the day the Gosport Independent Panel’s report was published, Bishop James Jones said there was an ‘institutionalised practice of shortening lives through prescribing and administering opioids without medical justification at the hospital’.

Rt Rev Jones has now called on Hampshire police’s chief constable, the home secretary Sajid Javid and health secretary Jeremy Hunt to ‘act accordingly’. Retired GP Dr Jane Barton, who was at the time clinical assistant on the wards, was ‘responsible for the practice of prescribing which prevailed on the wards,’ the bishop said.

But he said it was ‘not for the panel to ascribe the criminal or civil liability’…

AG Sessions Talking To Congress About Using DNA Tests To Verify Parents Of Immigrant Children – Daily Caller

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is exploring the possibility of using DNA tests to verify the parentage of illegal alien adults who attempt to cross the southern border with children, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said in a statement Tuesday after interviewing Sessions on his radio show Washington Watch.

“Sessions is talking to congressional members and is hoping for a legislative fix. The AG wants an immigration policy that is just, fair and enforceable. They talked about making sure that these really are the parents of these kids,” Perkins said.

He continued, “They are looking at how to use DNA tests in the field to verify they are parents and not traffickers. The reality is if American parents put their kids through what these immigrant parents have done to their kids – they would be charged with child abuse.”

Around 12,000 children are currently in the custody of Health and Human Services after entering the United States…

The FBI will make its employees undergo bias training, Director Christopher A. Wray promised Thursday, after a devastating report found the bureau made bad decisions, has a culture of leaking sensitive information, and may have skewed campaign-season decisions because of bias.

New text messages released by the Justice Department inspector general showing conversations between Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok and paramour FBI lawyer Lisa Page suggest a deep anti-Trump sentiment.

In one exchange, Ms. Page wanted reassurance that then-candidate Donald Trump couldn’t win the election. Mr. Strzok replied: “No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it.”

FBI Agent Peter Strzok In Text To Lisa Page: ‘We’ll Stop’ Trump From Becoming President – National Review

FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was intimately involved in the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the probe of Russian election-meddling, vowed to “stop” Donald Trump from reaching the White House in an August 2016 text message to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, the Washington Post reports.

“[Trump’s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!” Page wrote to Strzok in a text message set to be released Thursday as part of a Department of Justice inspector general’s report.

“No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it,” Strzok, who was dating Page at the time, responded.

Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team in August after the inspector general uncovered the text messages, and Page has since left the bureau. Strzok’s comment is reminiscent of his cryptic discussion of implementing an “insurance policy” in the event Trump won the election, which was exposed in a previous batch of text messages uncovered by the IG last year…

Bestselling Author Fired For Mocking Publisher’s Diversity Policy – James Delingpole

Supreme Court Rules Minnesota Law Banning Political Apparel At Polls Is Illegal – Washington Times

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a Minnesota law banning voters from wearing political apparel to the polls, saying it was too draconian in stifling Americans’ First Amendment rights.

The 7-2 decision said it may be possible for states to restrict stridently political T-shirts and buttons, but the justices said Minnesota didn’t justify why its law needed to be so broad.

Minnesota’s ban covered any “political badge, political button, or other political insignia” a voter might wear. Andrew Cilek, a state voter, challenged the law after he was told he couldn’t vote in 2010 because he was wearing a T-shirt with the emblem of a local tea party group and had a button asking for poll workers to check his ID.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing the majority opinion, said the law left it up to poll workers to decide what was political, creating the potential for conflicting or mischievous decisions over whether something is political…

Retail Sales Boom: Biggest Rise In Six Months, Double Expectations – Breitbart

U.S. retail sales in May far exceeded forecasts, rising by the most in six-months and signaling faster economic growth.

The retail “control group” sales, which excludes some of the more volatile numbers, rose 0.5 percent, which also exceeded forecasts.

The results likely reflect the high levels of consumer confidence, a very strong labor market, and lower taxes. The unexpected strength in the control group, which excludes gas stations sales, indicates that higher fuel prices have not stolen consumer demand from other sectors of the economy…

.

.
Europe has another political crisis on its hands, and this one could be a big one as it is right in the middle of Europe’s growth dynamo “ground zero.” As the WSJ reports, a rebellion over immigration in German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc is threatening the stability of her fragile coalition.

Merkel’s weekend decision to veto a plan by her interior minister aimed at controlling and reducing illegal migration, and the minister’s refusal to back down, has already shattered an uneasy truce between conservative backers and opponents of her liberal asylum policy, just months after a tenuous coalition government was formed.

As a result, on Thursday Merkel faced a showdown within her conservative camp over the the future of immigration policy that threatens her political future…

Federal Reserve Raises Interest Rates – BBC
.

.
The U.S. Federal Reserve has voted to raise the target for its benchmark interest rate by 0.25%, citing solid economic expansion and job gains. The widely-anticipated decision will lift the target for the central bank’s benchmark rate to 1.75%-2%, the highest level since 2008.

A majority of Fed officials also forecast two more rate rises this year, one more than previously predicted.

The rise is part of the U.S. recovery following the global financial crisis. It is the seventh time the bank has raised rates since 2015.

The tighter policy reflects expectations that US growth and inflation will prove stronger than officials anticipated in March, while the unemployment rate continues to fall…

Plan To Split California Into 3 States Earns Spot On November Ballot – Los Angel4es Times

California’s 168-year run as a single entity, hugging the continent’s edge for hundreds of miles and sprawling east across mountains and desert, could come to an end next year – as a controversial plan to split the Golden State into three new jurisdictions qualified Tuesday for the Nov. 6 ballot.

If a majority of voters who cast ballots agree, a long and contentious process would begin for three separate states to take the place of California, with one primarily centered around Los Angeles and the other two divvying up the counties to the north and south. Completion of the radical plan – far from certain, given its many hurdles at judicial, state and federal levels – would make history.

It would be the first division of an existing U.S. state since the creation of West Virginia in 1863.

“Three states will get us better infrastructure, better education and lower taxes,” Tim Draper, the Silicon Valley venture capitalist who sponsored the ballot measure, said in an email…

North Korea Apparently Destroys Missile Test Facility – Breitbart

After his summit with dictator Kim Jong-un on Tuesday, President Trump indicated the North Koreans are dismantling another facility important to their development of nuclear missiles following the purported shutdown of the Punggye-ri nuclear bomb testing site.

Analysts believe this was a reference to the missile engine testing site at Kusong, which appears to be undergoing demolition based on satellite imagery.

North Korean watchdog site 38 North reported last week that the Iha-ri Driver Training and Test Facility, as it is formally known, was the only known facility for testing the launch system for Pyongyang’s latest generation of land-based long-range ballistic missiles.

The launch canister and ejection system is an essential component of mobile missile systems, providing the ability to prep and launch the enormous missiles quickly.

North Korea was also working on solid-fuel rocket engines, which can be launched more quickly and transported more easily than liquid-fueled missiles…

Trump Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize By Norwegian Politicians – Zero Hedge

The summit in Singapore has made U.S. President Donald Trump “a man of peace,” according to two Norwegian parliamentary representatives (from the Frp party), and as NRK reports, they have nominated him for the most gifted award of all of them.

Representatives Christian Tybring-Gjedde (Frp) and Per-Willy Amundsen (Frp) believe it qualifies Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“What’s happening now is historical. A process is underway to ensure world peace in the future. It’s a fragile process, but we must of course do what we can to help this process bring good results. I think that we can do by sending a clear signal by giving Trump the peace prize.”

And amid all the left’s dismay at just what was agreed, the two Norwegian parliamentarians, however, do not believe that a peace-winning nomination is too early.

“It’s not a binding agreement, but it’s an initiative to visit both ways…

Shawn Moody Wins Maine GOP Gubernatorial Primary – Maine Public

Republican businessman Shawn Moody won Tuesday’s ranked-choice voting primary in the race to succeed Maine’s firebrand Gov. Paul LePage, while no clear majority winner had emerged in the Democratic primary.

The founder of a string of auto repair shops won a majority of the Republican vote, meaning there’s no need for additional rounds of voting under the voting system used in a statewide primary for the first time in U.S. history.

If the Democratic result holds when all of the votes are counted, there would be additional rounds of vote tabulations next week, as election officials eliminate last-place candidates and reallocate votes. The winner of that race may not be known for at least a week.

“I think Mainers have spoken,” Moody said. “They want a businessperson, an outsider. And they’re not ready to turn Augusta back over to the politicians.”…

Court Says Doctors And Nurses Can Pretty Much Commit Sexual Assault If Directed By Police – Law & Crime

A federal court has ruled that doctors and nurses can perform forced medical procedures against innocent women – invasively violating them anally and vaginally – without their consent so long as police claim it’s necessary and acceptable.

Judge James E. Graves Jr. delivered the panel opinion of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. In a tidy summary of the facts of the case, Graves noted [emphasis added]:

Gloria Bustillos (“Bustillos”) is a [56-year-old] U.S. citizen. On September 19, 2013, Bustillos was crossing the Paso del Norte bridge from Juarez, Mexico, to El Paso, Texas. Bustillos did not have any illegal drugs or contraband. After presenting her passport to Customs and Border Protection agents, Bustillos was immediately taken into custody despite telling agents that she was not in possession of narcotics. An increasingly intrusive series of searches followed.

Trump Cancels Meeting With Kim Jong Un Hours After NK Blows Up Tunnels, Buildings At Nuclear Site – WGNO

North Korea appeared to destroy at least three nuclear tunnels, observation buildings, a metal foundry and living quarters at its Punggye-ri nuclear test site on Thursday, in a process observed by invited international journalists.

A CNN crew at the remote mountain site in the country’s north witnessed explosions at nuclear tunnels 2, 3 and 4, from observation decks about 500 meters away. They were among two dozen journalists invited into the country to observe the apparent destruction of the site.

Leftist Nightmare Update: Feds To Spend $685 Billion On Obamacare Subsidies This Year – Washington Standard

Yes, we continue to be plagued by the unconstitutional legislation known as Obamacare, and sadly there are too many people who want government to usurp its constitutional authority and steal from one citizen to pay for another citizen’s health care.

Billionaire Enviro-Weenie Paying Convicted Felons To Gather Signatures For Arizona Ballot Initiative – Daily Caller

An organization backed by environmentalist Tom Steyer is allegedly paying convicted felons to gather signatures for a ballot initiative in Arizona – a crime in the state.

NFL Teams To Be Fined If Players Kneel During National Anthem – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

NFL owners approved a new policy aimed at addressing the firestorm over national anthem protests sparked by Colin Kaepernick and polarized by President Donald Trump, permitting players to stay in the locker room during the “The Star-Spangled Banner” but requiring them to stand if they come to the field.

DOJ Gives Congress Missing Strzok-Page Text Messages – Daily Caller

The Justice Department on Thursday gave Congress five months worth of text messages exchanged between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page – two FBI officials involved in the investigations into Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump’s campaign.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is set to cross his country’s heavily militarised border with South Korea on Friday for the first intra-Korea summit in more than a decade, as the old foes seek to end their decades-long conflict and ease tensions over the North’s nuclear weapons programme.

The summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in will set the stage for Kim to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in late May or early June, in what will be an unprecedented first encounter between sitting leaders of the two countries.

Just months ago, Trump and Kim were trading threats and insults as North Korea’s rapid advances in pursuit of nuclear-armed missiles capable of hitting the United States raised fears of a fresh conflict on the Korean peninsula.

South Korea’s Moon will personally greet Kim at the military demarcation line at 9:30 a.m. (0030 GMT), making Kim the first North Korean leader to set foot in the South since the 1950-53 Korean War…

Mike Pompeo Confirmed As Secretary Of State Despite Machinations Of Obstructionist Democrats – Washington Times
.

.
The Senate on Thursday approved former CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be the nation’s next secretary of state, overcoming heavy resistance from Democrats.

The 57-42 vote was the second straight strongly partisan vote for a secretary of state, which until President Trump took office usually featured large bipartisan majorities in favor of the president’s choice. Rex Tillerson, whom Mr. Trump fired from the job earlier this year, was confirmed in 2017 with 43 “no” votes, all from Democrats.

But on a day when President Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Veterans Affairs, White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson, withdrew his name from consideration, the confirmation of Mr. Pompeo marked a major personnel win for the administration…

Senate Confirms Richard Grenell As German Ambassador – NewsMax

The Senate voted 56-42 on Thursday to confirm Richard Grenell as ambassador to Germany, making him one of President Donald Trump’s most prominent openly gay appointees.

Grenell’s nomination was stalled for months – Trump nominated him in September – and the White House repeatedly cited it as an example of Democratic obstruction in the confirmation of the president’s nominees.

He was among as many as 129 Trump nominees who were awaiting Senate confirmation hearings as of late last month, according to news reports.

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday that Grenell’s confirmation “was delayed far too long for such an important position and during such troubling times.

“The extreme partisanship displayed toward Mr. Grenell, a highly qualified nominee from President Trump, will be remembered.”…

Jury Finds Bill Cosby Guilty Of 3 Counts Of Aggravated Indecent Assault – USA Today
.

.
Comedian and TV icon Bill Cosby has been convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault at his sexual-assault retrial here Thursday, on the second day of deliberations. After the verdict was delivered, Judge Steven O’Neill thanked the jurors for their service, and then warned jurors about interactions with the media.

“You have sacrificed much, but you have sacrificed in the service of justice and in this country and this Commonwealth and this county,” O’Neill said. “That is important.”

After the jury left the room, O’Neill said the $1 million bail Cosby posted was sufficient for him to remain free until sentencing. That set off a heated argument with Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele who wanted Cosby’s bail revoked as an alleged flight risk…

Explosion Rocks Wisconsin Oil Refinery, Hurting At Least 5 – Circa

An explosion rocked a large refinery in Wisconsin Thursday, injuring several people, a fire official said.

The blast at the Husky Energy oil refinery happened at about 10 a.m. Five people were taken to hospitals in Duluth, Minnesota, Superior Fire Chief Steve Panger told The Associated Press. He doesn’t know the extent of their injuries. Others were walking wounded. There were no known fatalities.

A contractor who was inside the building told WDIO television that the explosion sounded like “a sonic boom” and that it happened when crews were working on shutting the plant down for repairs. Panger said the fire was out by 11:20 a.m. He said a small tank exploded, and the product was either crude oil or asphalt.

Superior police are advising people to stay away from the area and roads around the refinery have been blocked off. There have been no neighborhood evacuations. Superior is a city of about 27,000 people that borders Minnesota to the north and the tip of Lake Superior….

14 States Hit Record Low Unemployment – Tapwires

Fourteen states have set new records for low unemployment rates in the last year, nearly a decade after the recession put millions of Americans out of work.

The states hitting new unemployment lows run the ideological gamut, from conservative Texas to liberal California, suggesting a recovery stronger than any particular political persuasion.

In March, eight states hit new record lows, including Hawaii (2.1 percent), Idaho (2.9), Kentucky (4.0), Maine (2.7), Mississippi (4.5), Oregon (4.1) and Wisconsin (2.9).

California also set a new record last month. The Golden State’s unemployment rate stands at 4.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). That’s the lowest rate recorded since BLS began keeping track of state-level unemployment figures in 1976, and it’s a third of the 12.3-percent unemployment rate California notched at the height of the recession in December 2010…

Nicaraguan Socialist Dictator Daniel Ortega Looks Set For His Ceausescu Moment, Thanks To Trump – Monica Showalter

Daniel Ortega, the rabid, “freely elected” dictator of Nicaragua, and a guy who’s been at it for so long that even the great Ronald Reagan knew about him and loathed him, has been having some problems in the Cuba-style hellhole he created in the name of “social justice.”

The socialist thug has been siccing his goons to shoot protesters dead in the streets after a few of the youthful ones got the ball rolling with protests against his long, corrupt rule. Get a load of how bad it was, according to the BBC:

Some students said they had been beaten and tortured by police while in custody. The claims could not be independently verified.

Religious Liberty Attorney Confirmed To Federal Bench – Washington Free Beacon

Religious liberty advocates received a boost in federal courts after the Senate confirmed one of the nation’s leading First Amendment attorneys to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Senate voted to approve President Trump’s nominee, Kyle Duncan, to Louisiana’s Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday. Duncan is the former general counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a nonprofit law firm that “exists to defend the free exercise of all faiths, from Anglican to Zoroastrian,” as it says on its website.

The group has been involved in some of the most high profile religious liberty cases in the nation in recent years, helping nuns at the Little Sisters of the Poor and religious business owners at Hobby Lobby resist the Obama administration’s contraception and abortifacient mandate.

It also successfully defended the rights of Muslim prisoners and Sikh soldiers to abide by their religious teachings. Duncan joined the firm in 2012 after serving as Louisiana attorney general and participated in the Hobby Lobby case…

Activist Judge Rules That Trump Must Reinstate Unconstitutional DACA Program – Daily Wire

On Tuesday evening, U.S. District Judge John Bates ruled that President Trump could not legally end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, arguing that Trump would have to begin reissuing temporary visas again. He called the decision to end DACA “arbitrary and capricious because the Department failed adequately to explain its conclusion that the program was unlawful.”

So, in other words, if a president takes an executive action, then the subsequent president cannot undo that executive action – even if that original executive action has been declared unconstitutional, at least in part.

This is insanity – or, as Michael Brendan Dougherty of National Review put it, it’s “Calvinball,” the inane game created by cartoon character Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes, who arbitrarily changed the rules of the game when convenient.

NRA Scored Largest Fundraising Haul In 20 Years Following Parkland Shooting – Circa

The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) political action fund set a 21st-century fundraising record following the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla., according to federal records.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show the NRA’s Political Victory Fund raised $2.4 million in donations in March. The data – which The Washington Post first reported on Tuesday – illustrates that $1.9 million of that total came from small donations of $200 or less.

Such small donations subsequently account for about 80 percent of the political action committee’s March haul.

Finland Abandons Universal Basic Income Experiment After Two Years – Zero Hedge

With high-profile champions such as Richard Branson, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, backing the idea of governments giving non-working people money (from working people) to do nothing – what could go wrong?

Well, two years after enthusiastically beginning its experiment with a universal basic income – in which people are paid an unconditional salary by the state instead of benefits – Finland is abandoning the project as government enthusiasm wanes and additional funding requests are rejected.

As a reminder, The Telegraph explains Universal basic income is a form of cash payment given to individuals, without means testing or work requirements. In some models this is at a rate sufficient to cover all living expenses.

Proponents argue that:

* The lack of expensive means-testing leads to a higher proportion of the budget going to recipients. This would be more efficient…

Implosion Of Venezuela Creates Refugees Wave On Scale Of Syrian Civil War – Washington Times

It’s a chilly fall afternoon in the Argentine capital, and for many around the circle at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish hall, the climate feels distinctly foreign.

Only one hand goes up when Jose Guerra, moderator of the day’s workshop, asks how many of the two dozen recently arrived Venezuelan refugees in the hall have lived through four distinct seasons. The rest, it turns out, arrived only within the past few weeks or months.

They are just a small part of the massive wave of Venezuelans turning their backs on their homeland and its beleaguered socialist government. Countries across Central and South America are struggling to deal with the massive outflow. Regional analysts say the out-migration threatens to destabilize Venezuela’s neighbors and prove a massive drain on South American resources and economic development.

First-Quarter Corporate Profits Surge 16%, The Most Since 2011 – CNBC

Analysts at CFRA expect corporate earnings to have surged 16.3 percent in the first quarter, the most in seven years.

“It marks the best growth recorded since 2011 when the [S&P 500] was climbing out of the depths of the latest recession, and is reminiscent of the growth recorded at the peak of the prior bull market,” Lindsey Bell, investment strategist at CFRA, wrote in a note Thursday.

Corporate earnings rose 19.5 percent in the first quarter of 2011, according to FactSet.

This is one of the most widely anticipated earnings seasons in recent memory as investors expect a lower corporate tax rate to have boosted the bottom line for companies. President Donald Trump signed a bill in December that lowered the U.S. corporate tax rate to 21 percent from 35 percent.

“This will be the first quarter corporations will benefit from the Trump administration’s tax policy, which is a key reason growth jumped from 10.4% at the start of the year to above 16% by the end of January,” Bell said…

Palestinians Who Burned Tires So Israel Could Not See Terrorist Infiltrators Demand Israel Give Them More Tires – Daily Wire

Unbelievable. Last Friday, Gazans burned 10,000 tires to obscure the vision of the security fence separating Israel from Gaza so that Israeli troops could not not see infiltrators into the land.

Then, on Sunday, speaking to The Jerusalem Post, Muhammad Hamdan, a spokesman for the PA Transportation Ministry, made this incredible statement:

Left-Wing Harvard Law Professor: DOJ Violated Michael Cohen’s Constitutional Rights – Daily Mail

A famed Harvard legal scholar is raising concerns about the Justice Department’s ability to responsibly handle some documents seized Monday from Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s offices.

Among the scooped-up papers, and lurking on phones and hard drives, is likely to be a cache of material that’s covered by attorney-client privilege.

Prosecutors are not permitted access to those files, and the DOJ’s standard practice is to set up a ‘taint team’ – a group of agents and lawyers not connected to the Cohen case or the special counsel probe into all things Russia – to decide what they can see.

But ‘taint teams don’t work,’ Alan Dershowitz told DailyMail.com on Tuesday, because seizing the material in the first place was a violation of Cohen’s constitutional rights – even if it’s never used in court.

Dershowitz was at the White House on Tuesday afternoon in advance of a dinner appointment with the president, according to two officials…

This is why Republicans will lose in a landslide in November. They can’t keep attacking the president and defending crooked cops and expect voters to turn out to support them. And, of course, they will blame President Trump for their losses.

The Hill reported:

A group of bipartisan senators is introducing new legislation to limit President Trump’s ability to fire special counsel Robert Mueller. Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.). Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) will introduce the legislation…

Omar Mateen’s Widow Found Not Guilty Of All Charges In Pulse Nightclub Massacre Case – Orlando Sentinel

Noor Salman is not guilty of helping her husband, Omar Mateen, carry out the mass shooting that claimed 49 lives at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016, a jury decided Friday.

The 12-member jury delivered its verdict after deliberating for about 12 hours over three days. Salman was also acquitted of obstruction of justice. Prosecutors accused her of lying to the FBI agents who investigated her husband’s mass murder, which he carried out in support of a foreign terror group, the Islamic State.

Had she been convicted, Salman, 31, would have faced up to life in prison.

Salman was crying after the verdict was read. She looked back at her family before leaving the courtroom through a side door, escorted by a U.S. marshal. Her cousin and two uncles began sobbing and hugging as soon as a clerk read the words “not guilty.”

“Happy Friday. It’s Good Friday,” Salman’s uncle, Al Salman, said outside the courthouse later. He thanked his niece’s attorneys, the judge and the jury…

Useless Sack Of Crap Jeff Sessions Not Ready To Appoint Special Counsel To Investigate Obvious Deep-State Crimes – MarketWatch
.

.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday that Utah U.S. Attorney John Huber is investigating GOP lawmakers’ allegations against the FBI and that a special counsel is not needed to probe the case.

Huber, an appointee of President Barack Obama, will try to determine whether the bureau abused its power when it obtained a warrant to surveil a former adviser to President Trump’s campaign, CNN reported.

But the A.G.’s decision to not appoint a special counsel was bound to anger Republicans on Capitol Hill, many of whom have been calling for a tit-for-tat probe of the FBI and Justice Department that would run alongside Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling…

California’s Medicaid Expansion Signed Up 366,000 Ineligible People – Becker’s Hospital Review

California enrolled hundreds of thousands ineligible or “potentially” ineligible beneficiaries under Medicaid expansion, according to estimates detailed in a report from HHS’ Office of Inspector General.

For the Feb. 21 report, the OIG examined a sample of 150 newly eligible expansion beneficiaries who received Medicaid services from October 2014 through March 2015. It found California spent money on 112 eligible expansion beneficiaries and 38 ineligible or potentially ineligible expansion beneficiaries.

The report cited “a woman who did not meet eligibility requirements for the newly eligible group because she was pregnant” as an example of an ineligible beneficiary and an individual “who may not have met the residency requirement” as an example of a potentially ineligible beneficiary.

The OIG used the 150 beneficiary sample to generate estimates on the state’s overall Medicaid spend…

Eight Palestinians were killed and hundreds more were wounded by IDF gunfire along the Israel-Gaza border, Palestinian sources said Friday, as thousands swarmed the security fence as part of “The Great March of Return,” called for by enclave’s militant Hamas rulers.

It was the deadliest day in Gaza in several months. Seven of the Palestinians were killed during the clashes, while the seveth, a farmer, was killed by pre-dawn tank fire in a separate incident. One of those killed was reportedly 16 years old while another was 33 years old.

Palestinian health officials said Israeli forces used mostly gunfire against the protesters who were burning tires and throwing stones at IDF soldiers, in addition to tear gas and rubber bullets. Witnesses said the military had used a drone in at least one location to drop tear gas…

Congressmen Jordan And Meadows: Former FBI Deputy Director McCabe Lied On Multiple Occasions – Fox News

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) joined Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday night to reveal new information about the firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and to explain why it’s more evidence of the need for a second special counsel.

McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this month – just hours before his planned retirement – after the Justice Department’s inspector general determined McCabe was not truthful during his review of the Clinton email investigation and the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommended his firing.

The inspector general’s report has not been made public, but Jordan and Meadows’ offices have a copy of it.

Jordan said the report reveals that McCabe lied four times about leaking information to the press: once to the Office of Professional Responsibility, once to former FBI Director James Comey and twice under oath to the inspector general…

Lesbian Couple’s Kids Begged Neighbors For Food Days Before Family’s Van Plunged Off California Cliff – Daily Nail

The lesbian mothers who died on Monday along with at least three of their six adopted children after plunging 100ft over a coastal cliff in California had been reported to Child Protective Services days earlier for allegedly starving their kids.

On Friday, neighbors of Jennifer and Sarah Hart, both 39, called CPS to report that their son Devonte had come to their home asking for food every day for a week.

They said Devonte – who made national headlines when he was pictured hugging a police officer during a 2014 protest – asked them to leave food out in a box for him and said his mothers were ‘punishing’ him by not feeding him.

In 2017, another of the children came to their home at 1.30am asking for their ‘protection’, they said.

Boy With Sick Father Turns To President Trump For Help And Gets Touching Response – CBS News

Eight-year-old Fore Putnam has watched in silence for three years as his father, Trae, suffered through dialysis treatments and sat on the transplant wait list, hoping and praying for a new kidney. The North Carolina boy was powerless against the rare blood disease that rendered his father in complete renal failure. However, he’s powerless no more.

Just before Christmas, with a little help from his grandmother, Fore penned three letters: one to President Trump, one to his daughter Ivanka, and one to Santa Claus.

In the letter to Mr. Trump, the little boy wrote, “My dad has been sick for a long time… I want him to get better, so he can get a job again so we can play. My mom just left, so if my dad gets better, she might come back… Please help my dad for Christmas. That’s all I want for Christmas, and maybe one toy.”

Jobless claims have held consistently low throughout that past several years, and have reached decades-old records under President Trump. The unemployment rate has lingered close to 4.1 percent, below the level the Federal Reserve considers ideal for a stable and growing economy.

South African Politician Blasts “Racist” Australia For Harboring Fleeing White Farmers – Zero Hedge

In perhaps the most Orwellian statement of the day, the head of South Africa’s radical Marxist opposition party – who declared his party was “cutting the throat of whiteness” – called Australia a “racist country” for offering fleeing white farmers a refuge.

As we have detailed previously, last month, South Africa’s parliament voted in favour of a motion, brought by the EFF and supported by the ruling African National Congress, to begin the process of expropriating white-owned land without compensation.

That’s exactly what Zimbabwe did. Seeking to correct similar colonial and Apartheid-era injustices in his country, Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe initiated a land redistribution program in 1999-2000.

Trump Cutting Obama-Era Refugee Admissions 77% – Washington Examiner
.

.
The Trump administration, which has proposed a massive 60 percent reduction in refugee admissions from the Obama-era high of 110,000, is expected to cut that number even deeper. according to preliminary estimates.

Experts evaluating the administration’s latest refugee totals now predict a slash of over 77 percent, to 25,000 refugees a year.

“The national quota was lowered drastically by the Trump administration from 2018. His quota is, like, 45,000. Fed Raises Interest Rates A Quarter Point, Signals Two More Hikes In 2018 – Reuters

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates on Wednesday and forecast at least two more hikes for 2018, signaling growing confidence that U.S. tax cuts and government spending will boost the economy and inflation and lead to more aggressive future tightening.

In its first policy meeting under new Fed chief Jerome Powell, the U.S. central bank indicated that inflation should finally move higher after years below its 2 percent target and that the economy had recently gained momentum.

The Fed also raised the estimated longer-term “neutral” rate, the level at which monetary policy neither boosts nor slows the economy, a touch, in a sign the current gradual rate hike cycle could go on longer than previously thought.

“The economic outlook has strengthened in recent months,” the Fed said in a statement at the end of a two-day meeting in which it lifted its benchmark overnight lending rate by a quarter of a percentage point to a range of 1.50 percent to 1.75 percent…

.

.
Fascinating new pictures have emerged of an enormous cruise ship being cut in half so a 49ft extension can be inserted to increase passenger capacity by 12 per cent.

The Silver Spirit, launched at the end of 2009 by Silversea, was photographed at a dry dock in Palermo, Sicily, with her giant body split in two and her innards exposed.

Engineers are seen working throughout the night to move the cruise liner’s new section into place, with ‘precision’ key to the mind-boggling elongation project.

The Silver Spirit now has a new length of 691 feet thanks to the incredible feat of engineering. The previous passenger capacity was 540 but this will jump to 608.

The extension cost more than $70 million (£50.1 million)…

Catholic College Won’t Defend Student Threatened With Gay Rape For Defending Marriage – LifeSiteNews

Catholic college students are threatening, harassing, and targeting a Resident Advisor (RA), including with a cartoon depicting him being anally raped, for posting a bulletin board affirming Catholic teaching on marriage.

“I couldn’t even go brush my teeth for several nights without facing a mob in my hallway,” the RA, Michael Smalanskas, told LifeSiteNews.

Providence College, where this is taking place, is run by the Dominican order’s Province of St. Joseph – well-known in most places for its orthodoxy.

However, in response to repeated vandalism of the bulletin board and other student employees threateningly congregating outside the Catholic RA’s door – requiring campus security to move Smalanskas to a safe, undisclosed location – the college’s president, a Dominican priest, said “it belongs to a Catholic college to consider the views of those who disagree with the Church’s teaching.”…
