So, who will be able to afford health insurance by the time Obamacare is fully implemented?

the premiums are going higher and higher, the tax burden is increasing, fuel prices are not going down, making everything cost more. And the regulations by the EPA will certainly spike energy prices, and now, another regulation in Obamacare will make your trips to the grocery store even more expensive

The nasty effects of Obamacare just keep on coming. Today it’s grocery stores complaining about a costly new rule that could raise the cost of doing business. As usual, those costs will be passed along to the consumers.

Supermarket owners argue a pending federal food-labeling rule that stems from the new health care law would overburden thousands of grocers and convenience store owners — to the tune of $1 billion in the first year alone.

Store owner Tom Heinen said the industry’s profit margins already are razor thin. “When you incur a significant cost, there is no way that that doesn’t get passed on to the customer in some form,” he said.

The rule stems from an ObamaCare mandate that restaurants provide nutrition information on menus. Most in the restaurant industry were supportive of the idea, but when the FDA decided to extend the provision to also affect thousands of supermarkets and convenience stores, the backlash was swift.

The proposed regulation would require store owners to label prepared, unpackaged foods found in salad bars and food bars, soups and bakery items. Erik Lieberman, regulatory counsel at the Food Marketing Institute, said testing foods for nutritional data will require either expensive software or even more costly off-site laboratory assessments.

Lieberman said failure to get it right comes with stiff penalties: ”If you get it wrong, it’s a federal crime, and you could face jail time and thousands of dollars worth of fines.” (Read More)

Well, what do you expect. the government cannot do anything without screwing it up can they? All in the name of :controlling costs” and helping the little guy. Helping the little guy to what? Get into poverty? God help us because things are just going to get worse.

A stark reminder that a government big enough to give you everything………………

I think you likely know the rest right? Well, The Lonely Conservative has a reminder for us

I was perusing Capitalism Magazine and came across an article written by Richard Ralston and posted about a week ago. He explains how the FDA is not allowing a stem cell procedure in which one’s own cells taken from one part of the body are used to repair cells in the other part. I remember when the left was up in arms because George Bush put a freeze on federal funding for the use of embryonic stem cells, so I’m wondering where the outrage is over this? There aren’t any ethical problems with the using one’s own stem cells, so what’s the problem.

From the article:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has gone to court to prevent the Colorado-based firm Regenerative Sciences from using stem cells developed in one part of your body (bone marrow) to repair damage in other parts of your body, such as joints. The FDA objects to the fact that these cells are chemicals, the use of which they have the power to regulate even though the cells are taken from your body to later be injected back into your body.

The FDA is accustomed to the process by which it requires that many years and millions of dollars be spent to approve drugs developed in a laboratory before anyone is allowed to use them. Regardless of clinical results that show use of stem cells to be highly effective, the FDA finds it intolerable to let you use the cells in your own body without prior approval by a vast and expensive bureaucracy.

It is a shame that no one told all of those who would benefit from stem cell research that the benefits of such research would not actually be available to patients. Treatment of individuals does not comply with the FDA’s regulatory paradigm. Personalized medicine may work new miracles, but care for the individual must be subordinated to supervision by a multitude of administrators.

Growing government involvement in medicine, over generations, has resulted in control for the controller’s sake. The most extreme example of this is the refusal of the FDA, in many cases, to forbid access by terminally ill patients to drugs that have passed the first phase of testing, which establishes safety. Talk about stuck on stoopit! This is the natural result when we lose liberty though isn’t it? Once we cede control to government, all bets are off, and soon, all liberties are lost. For instance, were you aware that if you are on Medicare

In 2010, another hurdle was created with the passage of Obamacare. The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB)–”independent” because it is appointed by the President–decides whether it will allow payment for any care, including use of your stem cells. If you are on Medicare and your physician accepts Medicare patients, you may not even use your own money for treatment with your own stem cells. No physician in Medicare is allowed to accept payment for anything not covered by Medicare.

Got that? What possible business is it of the government to tell a doctor, what treatments they may provide, or what form of legitimate payment they can accept for that treatment? What does such a stipulation have to do with curbing costs? If you pay out of pocket, Medicare obviously is not paying, so, what possible reason is there? Think on that my friends. Like I, and many others have said over and again. This is all about control!

First they came for tobacco…………. UPDATED!

Then they came for evil sugar! And An ‘Old Broad is fighting mad!

Sugar under attack in obesity fight

Three California obesity researchers struck a nerve in Tennessee’s sweet tooth last month when they proposed regulating sugar in the same way government regulates tobacco and alcohol.

In the journal Nature , they pegged a litany of chronic illnesses to excess sugar consumption — diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver disease and others. Their article proposed taxing foods with added sugar, restricting purchases to ages 17 and over, and limiting convenience stores in poor neighborhoods.

There is no doubt in my mind….California really IS a granola state….fruits, nuts, and flakes!  First off, ya don’t tax people even more, second, ya don’t tell people what they can and cannot eat or drink, and third….it’s called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!  The whole thing sounds like discrimination against the poor folks to me!

Days before the Nature article published, U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais made a proposal on the other side of the political spectrum: a bill that would bar federal dollars from being used to publicly criticize foods already approved by the Food and Drug Administration. He’d learned federal stimulus funds financed healthy living campaigns that, in part, discouraged drinking sugary soda.

This is, of course, simply the natural evolution of the Nanny State. We did not stop them at their power grab over tobacco, and this is our reward. And these Neo-Marxists will not stop at sugar either. So, what will be next? Or maybe it will be an activity deemed “too dangerous” by our would-be overlords? Or maybe our Facebook password?

At Telegraph UK, “12-year-old US girl suing school over Facebook comments row“:

A 12-year-old girl is suing her school in Minnesota after being forced to hand over her Facebook password and punished for posts she made on the social networking site.

The case has been brought by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and comes amid growing concern in the United States about individuals’ ability to keep their email and other online accounts secret from their school, employer and government authorities.

A number of prospective employees have complained that they were forced to hand over their passwords to Facebook and Twitter when applying for jobs.

In the Minnesota case, the 12-year-old girl, known only as RS, is said to have been punished by teachers at Minnewaska Area Middle School for things she wrote on Facebook while at home, and using her own computer.

The ACLU is arguing that her First and Fourth Amendment rights, which protect freedom of speech and freedom from illegal searches respectively, were violated.

She is said to have been punished with detention after using Facebook to criticise a school hall monitor, and again after a fellow student told teachers that she had discussed sex online.

The Nanny State is like a cancer, it will not stop until it rots away every last liberty we have

Regulation? Big Government? Two things that can KILL YOU!

Stossel lays out the absurdity, and danger of over-regulation

Recently, there have been shortages of some medicines. Cancer patients can’t get drugs they need. Why not?

One reason is that a big drugmaker shut down for a year in part to meet Food and Drug Administration rules. The FDA makes it so expensive and difficult to sell drugs that there isn’t an eager pack of companies rushing to the fill the gap. The free market would provide that, but government intervention, such as low Medicare reimbursement, strangles it. So people suffer.

Does the FDA say it’s sorry for its part and back off? Of course not. Regulators almost never do that. In fact, the FDA wants more power.

It wants to regulate how your doctor uses his smartphone. I’m not kidding! The FDA wants the power to approve mobile medical apps that let doctors monitor patients’ vital signs over their phones. As one doctor put it, “Even though I’m away from the hospital, I can still look at … real-time wave form data just as if I were at the patient’s bedside.”

Sounds great. It makes doctors more efficient. But the FDA basically says, “No, you just can’t put something on your phone if it’s a medical device. What if it doesn’t work right? We have to approve it first.”

Go read it all. This is the inherent failure that any big government program or agency runs into. And then there is waste, fraud, corruption, power hungry bureaucrats, and on and on the list goes. The fact is this the farther removed from the people the power is, the worse things get!

Once more my Liberal friends, there is no such thing as “FREE”!

Sure, some women are buying the free birth control pills line, but, big time party-pooper Chris Wysocki is here to say “not so fast”

Ladies (and girls), get in line for your latest government handout free birth control pills! And breast pumps and condoms and pap smears and of course the “morning after” pill.

The new guidelines, which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) labeled “historic,” will require new health insurance plans to include women’s preventive services including FDA approved contraceptives, breast feeding support, and well-women visits — all without charging a co-payment, co-insurance or a deductible — beginning August 1, 2012.

Free stuff! From Barry and the Democrats! Vote for them!

But of course “free stuff” is not actually free. Somebody’s gotta pay. And that somebody is Maggie. She’s not pleased.

I learned today that I am forced to pay for your birth control and your morning-after, or a-few-days-later, abortion. Condoms included. It will all be “free” to you, because Obama said so. I’ll pay for your breast pump and other breast feeding “supports.” If I’m sounding bitter, I guess I shouldn’t. “These historic guidelines are based on science and existing literature.” Nevermind. I’m. Still. Bitter. No copays. Complete coverage. You still have time to run out and buy your condoms. Coverage starts today. There’s about 4 hours left to do what you’re going to do and bill it to me. Go on now. Ron Burgundy is waiting.

Yup, the bottom line is buried in the various news reports:

Of course, insurers are likely to pass the cost of free screenings to their customers through higher premiums.

WOW! Imagine that! Costs for “free stuff” being shifted to others. Like I have said before, once the government starts using taxation to encourage, or discourage behaviors, we are in deep trouble.

Now, ladies, there is still on free form of birth control, that IS truly free. There is such a thing as NOT sleeping with a guy, and I can say that this method is being used, trust me, I know from recent personal experience, SIGH!

Can you say strangulation by regulation boys and girls?

I knew you could. For those who always whine that we need big government to protect us all from, well, pretty much everything, and for those who say “if it just saves one life” this is for you to chew on

I got another chain email recently, this one highlighting the wordiness of today’s bureaucracy:

• The Lord’s Prayer: 70 words.

• 10 Commandments: 331 words.

• Declaration of Independence: 1,322 words.

• U.S. Constitution: 7,794 words.

• Government Regulations on the sale of cabbage: 26,911 words.

Ha ha! Good point! Except the last example isn’t true, as Snopes revealed.

But it would be true had the email just substituted cheese for cabbage. The FDA devotes 34,823 words to the regulation of cheese.

Other agencies add more words, and we end up with contradictory rules-the ones that tell us to eat fewer dairy products, but also to eat more cheese.

Yet they keep adding more words.

More words, more regulations, and now, no one can keep up with all the regs, and it is just getting worse and that includes at the state level too. Since our state, and federal legislatures are so eager to pass laws, and legislate, why don’t they get busy and start repealing about 95% of this crap?

First they came for Joe Camel……………

And eventually, Tony the Tiger is being hunted by the Food Police, tell, me, after reading this, who wants to predict how soon these Nanny State bastards are in our kitchens and fridges?, Well, I think that is exactly where THIS will lead

Tony the Tiger, some NASCAR drivers and cookie-selling Girl Scouts will be out of a job unless grocery manufacturers agree to reinvent a vast array of their products to satisfy the Obama administration’s food police.

Either retool the recipes to contain certain levels of sugar, sodium and fats, or no more advertising and marketing to tots and teenagers, say several federal regulatory agencies.

The same goes for restaurants.

It’s not just the usual suspected foods that are being targeted, such a thin mint cookies sold by scouts or M&Ms and Snickers, which sponsor cars in the Sprint Cup, but pretty much everything on a restaurant menu.

Although the intent of the guidelines is to combat childhood obesity, foods that are low in calories, fat, and some considered healthy foods, are also targets, including hot breakfast cereals such as oatmeal, pretzels, popcorn, nuts, yogurt, wheat bread, bagels, diet drinks, fruit juice, tea, bottled water, milk and sherbet.

Food industries are in an uproar over the proposal written by the Federal Trade Commission, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“The most disturbing aspect of this interagency working group is, after it imposes multibillions of dollars in restrictions on the food industry, there is no evidence of any impact on the scourge of childhood obesity,” said Dan Jaffe, executive vice president of the Association of National Advertisers.

It is not about fighting childhood obesity Dan, it never has been. It is about controlling everything we do, everything we eat, how our kids are raised, and on, and on, and………………..

And the Nanny State grows again

Traffic sign alerting drivers for Amish Buggie...

An unbelievable story that truly illustrates how far down the road of slavery to the state we are

A yearlong sting operation, including aliases, a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and surreptitious purchases from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania, culminated in the federal government announcing this week that it has gone to court to stop Rainbow Acres Farm from selling its contraband to willing customers in the Washington area.

The product in question: unpasteurized milk.

It’s a battle that’s been going on behind the scenes for years, with natural foods advocates arguing that raw milk, as it’s also known, is healthier than the pasteurized product, while the Food and Drug Administration says raw milk can carry harmful bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli and listeria.

This is simple folks, truly simple. The federal government, nor in my opinion any state government has any reasonable right to dictate to adults whether or not they choose to sell, buy, or consume the milk in question. Now I know there are folks who will say, “it is for our own good”, or the classic ” if it just saves one life”. To those folks I say, simply, what other things do you wish the government to save us from?

Why not ban two story homes? After all people die every year falling down their stairs. Tens of thousands die in car crashes, why not ban cars? People choke to death, why not mandate that everyone eat pureed food only? Seriously people, either we are free or we are not. And this story is not one that should be told in  a land of liberty!

IT IS on! Michelle Obama vs Jell-O

Michelle Malkin takes a look at what the FLOTUS is up to

The busybody hand of Michelle Obama looms large. New target: Jell-O, Fruit Loops, and that evil of evils…Minute Maid Lemonade. Via the NYTimes, meet the war (or rather, kinetic action — h/t chap) on dyed foods:

After staunchly defending the safety of artificial food colorings, the federal government is for the first time publicly reassessing whether foods like Jell-O, Lucky Charms cereal and Minute Maid Lemonade should carry warnings that the bright artificial colorings in them worsen behavior problems like hyperactivity in some children.

The Food and Drug Administration concluded long ago that there was no definitive link between the colorings and behavior or health problems, and the agency is unlikely to change its mind any time soon. But on Wednesday and Thursday, the F.D.A. will ask a panel of experts to review the evidence and advise on possible policy changes, which could include warning labels on food.

And how will the geniuses FIX their MADE UP problem? Michelle knows

The food police’s regulatory solution: More government-imposed labels, of course.

Can someone please slap a health hazard warning label on junk science queen Michelle Obama?

What kind of tacos are these again?

Well, you might not believe it, but, trust me, I ain’t “lion” about the meat in these tacos!

Have we run out of things to consume? In a country where obesity is at an all time high and 99¢ menus dominate the landscape, I’m really at a loss here. This is the kind of stunt that allows vegetarians to score points.

“Bryan Mazon, the owner of Boca Tacos and Tequila, said Monday that his Tucson eatery has received “many threats” against the restaurant, family members, customers and vendors since he announced last week that he was taking prepaid orders for the exotic tacos.” via msnbc 1/25/11

*Shakes head in disapproval* Two words: ‘Disgusting’ and ‘sad’.
