Defense Department: The Bible, Constitution And Declaration Of Independence All Perpetuate Sexism – Daily Caller

According to a Defense Department approved “sexism course,” the Bible, the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence all contribute to modern sexism.

Those three cherished texts all count as “historical influences that allow sexism to continue,” according to a presentation prepared by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, whose mission is to give a ”world-class human relations education.”

According to the course, the Bible has “quotes” which can be interpreted as sexist by readers.

The Declaration of Independence is also an historical cause of sexism, as the document refers only to “all men” – not “men and women.”

And the Constitution, the Pentagon argues, is an historical source of sexism because “slaves and women were not included until later in history.”

Of course, members of the Armed Forces take an oath to defend the Constitution – which is, according to the DEOMI course, an “historical influence that allows sexism to continue.”

“The content of the lesson is provided to generate academic discussion concerning how these historical documents have been included in discussions about the topic of sexism,” Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen, a Defense Department spokesman, told The Daily Caller.

But following TheDC’s request for comment, the sexism course – as well as two other courses listed on DEOMI’s website, entitled “Prejudice & Discrimination” and “Racism” – were taken offline.

“This course is currently offline and under revision,” a notice says under all three courses.

Asked about the sudden update, Christensen replied, “DEOMI online materials are periodically pulled to review to ensure accuracy and relevance. The racism, sexism and Prejudice & Discrimination are currently undergoing that review process.”

TheDC obtained copies of all three courses prior to their removal.

The “Prejudice & Discrimination” course was recently required for some Navy personnel who work in hospitals and clinics.

In the course, discrimination is divided into two categories: institutional and individual. Institutions can be a source of discrimination, as well as actions – or inaction – made by individuals.

Institutional discrimination, according to the DEOMI course, can be found in employment, education, housing and the military.

Examples of institutional discrimination in employment, according to DEOMI, are education requirements for employment:

The course teaches, “Individuals who have been segregated to inferior schools cannot find employment in businesses that hire according to specified credentials that inferior schools do not offer.”

Therefore, when employers institute education qualifications for prospective employees, they are engaging in a form of discrimination.

The DEOMI states more examples of institutional discrimination can be found in education:

Academic tests “may have inherent cultural bias,” the presentation argues.

Textbooks also perpetuate discrimination since they “provide little or no information on minority groups, especially minority histories and the contributions that minorities have made to American culture.”

DEOMI teaches students that they can also contribute to discrimination on an individual level.

The presentation asserts individuals can perpetrate discrimination through both active and inactive ways, including “refusing to acknowledge one’s own privilege.”

Active contributions to discrimination include verbal and physical assault, as well as “considering prejudices and discrimination to be a thing of a past.”

Inactive discrimination, according to DEOMI, includes failing to acknowledge personal “privilege.”

In the glossary provided by the course, “privilege” is defined as “a special advantage, immunity, permission, right, or benefit granted to or enjoyed by an individual, class, or caste.”

By an individual refusing to believe that he is inherently better off than another person as a result of his race or gender, DEOMI teaches that the individual is engaging in an act of discrimination.

At the same time, it is also viewed as inactive discrimination if an individual believes “you have experienced and fully understand the oppression of the target group.”

In addition to the presentation on “Prejudice & Discrimination,” DEOMI offers a broader course on the topic of “Racism.”

In the “Racism” presentation, individuals are cautioned against using “antilocution” — or using phrases that could have a racial connotation.

The graphic which accompanies the slide lists an array of naughty words, including “white men can’t jump” and “Jew.”

According to the presentation, the Defense Department also bans the word ”Redskin” — pitting the Pentagon against its hometown NFL team.

Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen said information in the DEOMI courses accurately reflects Department of Defense policy: “The Department of Defense Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity [ODMEO] in collaboration with the Military services review DEOMI’s education and training materials designed for Equal Opportunity Advisors [EOAs] to ensure that DoD policy is accurately reflected. DEOMI staff develops, in coordination with the ODMEO and the Military Services, standardized training templates to ensure only approved training materials are used during local training sessions.”

“While there is no DoD Policy that requires persons to take these online courses,” Christensen told TheDC, since 2011, 2,075 Department of Defense personnel took the “Sexism” course, 3,448 took the “Prejudice & Discrimination” course, and 3,028 took the “Racism” course.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

No Leftists, a right to PURSUE happiness does not include a right NOT to be offended

 

I learned years ago, before I ever started writing op-eds, and long before I started blogging that Liberalism is an ideology of convenience. A Liberal can take a stand on any issue regardless of facts. How convenient that is. Liberalism is also an ideology for the selfish. Not only do liberals think themselves entitled to everyone else’s money, but they think they should be able to express their opinions without any disagreement. See, disagreeing with a Liberal might force them to think about their position on issues, and that would be highly inconvenient. It would also make them unhappy, of course, Liberalism is also an ideology for the pessimistic, but I will save that for another time. Back to the unhappiness that being challenged ideologically brings to a Liberal. This is where Liberals fail to grasp what Jefferson was talking about when he wrote  “the pursuit of happiness” in the Declaration of Independence.

Jefferson writes about the “pursuit” of happiness. No one has a right to be happy, just as they do not have a right not to be offended, or a right to other people’s money. What we do have a right to do is pursue happiness, to live our lives as we see fit, to pursue, and hopefully live our dreams. Jefferson understood, as did the rest of the founders, that the unalienable right we are created with come from God, or at least they are rights that are part of the natural condition of mankind. These rights do not come from government, as Liberals believe. This, of course, makes Liberals unhappy because Liberals love them some government, the bigger the better. Now would be a good time to add another steadfast rule about Liberalism. It is an ideology of government dependence. Liberals look at government as their parents, it is there to protect them, decide for them, run their lives etc.

 

All ,of this makes me laugh when a Liberal tries to call Jefferson THEIR founding father. Jefferson if he lived today, would be loathed by the Left. He would be ridiculed as a Tea Party extremist, and the IRS would likely have thrown him in prison already. Jefferson exemplified everything the Left hates, yet they think feel, because Liberalism is an ideology of emotionalism, that Jefferson would be a Liberal. Boy do they misunderstand Jefferson. And, again, it is all because they fail to grasp what Jefferson meant when he penned the Declaration of Independence. Sorry Liberals, but pursuing happiness is not the same as being happy, and, as Jefferson understood, the pursuit of happiness is greatly hampered by big, intrusive government, but, I suppose y’all will never get that straight either. If Liberals were really honest with themselves, they would admit that THEIR founding father, was not Jefferson, or Madison, of Franklin, or Mason, or Washington, instead it was this lunatic.

But, sadly, many Liberals are not even aware of how closely their ideals and his are connected. If they spent more time thinking, rather than emoting, they might just grasp why I refer to them as Marxists in training

What did Jefferson mean by “happiness,” anyway? Considering that this phrase occurs where “property” would be found in the classic Lockean formulation of rights, Jefferson means “happiness” not as some mere sentimental feeling, but rather in the sense of “good fortune,” which to an 18th-century mind, would mean what we today mean when we say “success” or “prosperity” — the contented enjoyment of the accumulated fruits of one’s labor. Of course, the mind of an 18th-century colonial plantation owner is so remote from our own culture that we might as well try to understand the worldview of the Pharoahs.

Still, my point is exactly this: Our sentimental reverence for these phrases — “We hold these truths to be self-evident” and so forth — hinders our ability to think about what the Declaration was really all about, and unless we have the maturity to transcend our childish emotionalism, we aren’t really thinking, but merely feeling.

This is how we end up in situations where the discussion of public policy is warped by the claim that our arguments are wrong because we might make people feel bad about themselves.

You are a “hater” if you dispute the benefits of affirmative action — not because facts and logic contradict your argument, but because some people have convinced themselves that this policy is a reflection of their value as human beings. Thus, no matter how wrong-headed the policy or how harmful its results, your opposition is indicted as unfair because you’re making people feel bad — you hater!

Beyond that, however, is the point that Thomas Sowell hammers home inThe Vision of the Anointed, namely that liberalism is about making liberals feel good about themselves or, as the book’s subtitle explains,Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy

I knew you could. For those who always whine that we need big government to protect us all from, well, pretty much everything, and for those who say “if it just saves one life” this is for you to chew on

I got another chain email recently, this one highlighting the wordiness of today’s bureaucracy:

• The Lord’s Prayer: 70 words.

• 10 Commandments: 331 words.

• Declaration of Independence: 1,322 words.

• U.S. Constitution: 7,794 words.

• Government Regulations on the sale of cabbage: 26,911 words.

Ha ha! Good point! Except the last example isn’t true, as Snopes revealed.

But it would be true had the email just substituted cheese for cabbage. The FDA devotes 34,823 words to the regulation of cheese.

Other agencies add more words, and we end up with contradictory rules-the ones that tell us to eat fewer dairy products, but also to eat more cheese.

Yet they keep adding more words.

More words, more regulations, and now, no one can keep up with all the regs, and it is just getting worse and that includes at the state level too. Since our state, and federal legislatures are so eager to pass laws, and legislate, why don’t they get busy and start repealing about 95% of this crap?

Marxist Moron of the Day! Forget that this fool thinks that the “pursuit of happiness” is in the Constitution. Check out his statement that somehow the 14th amendment gives government the right to FORCE Americans to buy health insurance. Or his absurd statement that states require car owners to have car insurance. Yes, so? States are NOT the federal government are they? Does this fool even recognize the difference?

The best line, however, has to be his statement that health care is not a privilege, but a right. OK, what other “rights” does our government force us to use? Does this fool grasp what a right is? He certainly does not grasp the meaning as our Founders did.

Good grief no wonder our nation is in the state it is. Our “leaders” are clueless as to our history.

Just seven days after he sparked controversy by omitting the word “Creator” when he closely paraphrased the passage from the Declaration of Independence that says all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights,” President Barack Obama again omitted the Creator when speaking about the “inalienable rights” that “everybody is endowed with.” This time the president was speaking at a Sept. 22 fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, and his reference to “inalienable rights” was not as close a paraphrasing of the Declaration as it had been the week before.

“And what was sustaining us was that sense that, that North Star, that sense that, you know what, if we stay true to our values, if we believe that all people are created equal and everybody is endowed with certain inalienable rights and we’re going to make those words live, and we’re going to give everybody opportunity, everybody a ladder into the middle class, every child able to go as far as their dreams will take them–if we stay true to that, then we’re going to be able to maintain the energy and the focus, the fight, the gumption to get stuff done,” Obama said at the DCCC/DSCC event, according to the transcript posted by the White House.

To me, he says we are “Created” so the fishing for hidden meanings in the fact that he does not say “Creator” as well misses the larger issue. Focus on this quote.

Yep, see, his version of our national ideal is that the GOVERNMENT is going to GIVE opportunity, and somehow ensure EVERYONE has a place in the MIDDLE CLASS. Sorry Barry, but the Founders spoke of freedoms like the PURSUIT of happiness, not any guarantee of happiness, and certainly no government “ladders” into any certain class. Their ideal was more along the lines of keeping the government out-of-the-way. Once again, Obama’ vision, and that of his entire party, of America is out of touch with the men who founded America.
