Congress FINALLY reaches deal that will address spending!

Final… Oh wait, my bad, they actually only voted to ban the word “lunatic” from federal law. For a minute there I bet you thought these worthless shit bags were actually going to do their freaking jobs!

As the nation staggers through hard times toward total ruin as a result of the toll taken on the economy by Big Government, it’s nice to see our rulers finally addressing the serious issues that threaten us:

The word “lunatic” will be stricken from federal law under legislation that passed the House on Wednesday and is headed to President Obama for his signature.

The Congressional action is the latest effort to remove language from federal law that has become outdated or is considered demeaning.

Words are especially “demeaning” when they hit too close to home.

Only one Rep voted against the measure.

The lone “no” vote was cast by Representative Louie Gohmert, Republican of Texas, who said in a statement that “not only should we not eliminate the word ‘lunatic’ from federal law when the most pressing issue of the day is saving our country from bankruptcy, we should use the word to describe the people who want to continue with business as usual in Washington.”

So, in 225 years, America has gone from Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Washington, Mason, etc. to THIS! One man, ONE in the entire House gets it? And the Republicans have a big majority in the House! Dear God we are so screwed!

The Congressional action is the latest effort to remove language from federal law that has become outdated or is considered demeaning. Two years ago Congress took out references to “mental retardation.”

Priorities people! Where are our priorities?

Why you cannot rely on big government

The inherent failure of so many big government initiatives lies in this simple fact. the further away from the people power is consolidated, the more corruption, waste, fraud, and inefficiency we will have. Western Hero does a great job of giving us the latest example

Mark Steyn points out, so much government now is expensive window-dressing.  The president looked good in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy:

He had himself photographed in the White House Situation Room, nodding thoughtfully to bureaucrats[…] and Tweeted it to his 3.2 million followers. He appeared in New Jersey wearing a bomber jacket rather than a suit to demonstrate that when the going gets tough the tough get out a monogrammed Air Force One bomber jacket.

So you can have Big Government bigger (or, anyway, more expensive) than any government’s ever been, and the lights still go out in 17 states – because your president spent 6 trillion bucks, and all the country got was a lousy Air Force One bomber jacket for him to wear while posing for a Twitpic answering the phone with his concerned expression.

He notes that the hurricane only struck a few counties on the eastern seaboard, but it’s winds wreaked havoc with an antiquated electric grid across a swath of states:

Everyone else had slightly windier-than-usual wind – and yet they were out of power for days. In a county entirely untouched by Sandy, my office manager had no electricity for a week. Not because of an “emergency” but because of a decrepit and vulnerable above-the-ground electrical distribution system that ought to be a national embarrassment to any developed society.

Imagine if Obama’s 2009 stimulus had been spent burying every electric pole on the Eastern Seaboard. Instead, just that one Obama bill spent a little shy of a trillion dollars, and no one can point to a single thing it built.

Go read the rest, it is great, especially when Steyn calls Mayor Bloomberg a “preening buffoon”

Should we be surprised that Democrats define higher taxes as patriotic?

In a word, NO! The Democratic Party has slipped into Neo-Marxism. They worship big government, and thoroughly believe that you should only be allowed to keep what the government allows you to keep. So this is not a surprise

See, paying your “fair share” is patriotic! And who will decide what is fair? Government of course! No wonder the Democrats always garner the support of these folks

Moonbattery: It is the regs you morons!

Wanna cut spending? Shrink government, which would cut spending even more? Wanna increase jobs, which would increase revenues, and cut spending even further? The get rid of the crushing regulations President Marx Obama has imposed!

Karl Marx (1818-1883)
Image via Wikipedia

We are frequently told that there is no way Big Government can cut spending, so we must endlessly increase confiscatory taxation on “the rich.” In reality, saving $46 billion per year while improving the quality of our lives would be a simple as repealing the major new regulations Obama has inflicted:

Let Obama be clear……….

Obama if fond of saying “let me be clear yet, he seldom is clear. If Obama were clear, he would just say, “I have no use for the Constitution, nor do I believe in that useless piece of paper!”

President Barack Obama last week unveiled his latest attempt to divert attention away from his horrendously failed economic policies and record.  In his ongoing effort to “fundamentally transform America and his loomingly piteous campaign to get reelected, the newest phraseology is “We Can’t Wait.

From his weekly radio address on Saturday:

“The truth is, we can no longer wait for Congress to do its job….So where Congress won’t act, I will.”

There is so much disingenuousness contained in just this tiny excerpt.  The truth is, there is nothing at all new about this.  President Obama has been end-running Congress to unilaterally “fundamentally transform America” since (at least) November 2, 2010. That election day was a stinging, historic rebuke of the Leftist, Big Government policies of President Obama and his Democrats.  Not just in D.C. but throughout the nation, at the state and local levels as well.  It was a crashing, crushing wavethat Obama himself described it as a shellacking.”

We the People elected Republicans in huge numbers up and down the ticket to (amongst other things) serve as a blockade to the Socialism being further emplaced by Donkeys. Unfortunately, the will of We the People remains utterly irrelevant to Obama. After the brutal Congressional slog that was the jamming-through of ObamaCare, over the expressed objections of We the People, the President had enough of the legislative (or constitutional) way of doing things, so he began his regulatory fiat power grabs.

Can’t pass the energy sector-assault that is Cap & Trade?  No problem, President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will start imposing large swaths of it as if it has. Can’t pass the workplace-assault that is the Big Union-payoff Card Check?  No problem, President Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)  and Department of Labor will start imposing large swaths of it as if it has.

We have elected a committed Marxist, and yes, this is the number one reason that we must send President Obama packing next November, along with enough Democrats in the Senate to give us the majority in Congress as well. The Leftist ideology of Reid/Pelosi/Waxman/Obama has done enough damage to our Republic.

California Bill Would Require Fitted Sheets At Hotels To Protect Housekeepers

California Bill Would Require Fitted Sheets At Hotels To Protect Housekeepers – Los Angeles Times

Business owners and others who have long complained that companies are overburdened by state regulations say a proposal now moving through the Legislature shows that lawmakers have lost all touch with reality: It would require that hotels use fitted sheets.

“We are now going to make it a crime in California not to use a fitted sheet? Really?” state Sen. Sam Blakeslee (R-San Luis Obispo) asked during a debate before the Senate passed the measure in June.

The bill, one of nearly 900 awaiting final action in the Legislature when it returns Monday from a monthlong recess, is intended to address back injuries sustained by hotel housekeepers. But it has revived a long-simmering debate over whether California has become a hyper-regulated “nanny state.”

In 2007, the Legislature was subject to national ridicule when it considered a bill to outlaw spanking of young children. Embarrassed lawmakers eventually shelved that proposal, but businesses have decried the Legislature’s subsequent ban on trans fats in restaurant cooking, requirement that calorie counts appear on menus, and prohibition on dairies docking cows’ tails.

This year, businesses are crying foul over proposals to ban restaurants from cooking shark fin soup and using Styrofoam food containers – and the sheets bill. Its author, state Sen. Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles), said scores of housekeepers suffer back injuries each year lifting heavy mattresses to replace flat sheets, and the issue is a personal one for him.

“My mother was a housekeeper and worked herself to the bone,” said De Leon, who said his measure would be the first law of its kind in the nation. It also would require special tools to enable maids to clean bathrooms without having to stoop or get down on their hands and knees.

“Housekeepers have the highest rate of lower-back injuries in the hotel industry, and these workers deserve much better,” the senator said.

More than 7,400 housekeepers working in California hotels have filed workers’ compensation claims for injuries they say they suffered last year, including 883 who said they hurt their backs, according to the state Industrial Relations Department.

Another proposal pending in the Legislature would require hospitals to provide patient-lifting equipment or teams of backup workers to help nurses avoid wrenching their backs when they lift or move patients.

The hospital and hotel bills are being pushed by employee unions representing nurses and housekeepers. They are opposed by industry groups that say they share the goal of protecting workers but object to blanket rules dictated from Sacramento.

The dispute is particularly intense this year as California struggles with a tough economy and high unemployment.

“Californians will be outraged when they learn that instead of focusing on the many real problems facing this state, lawmakers want to regulate bed sheets,” said Lynn Mohrfeld, head of the California Hotel & Lodging Assn.

The hotel industry says that it would have to spend at least $30 million to replace sheets and buy appropriate laundry equipment, and that De Leon’s measure, SB 432, would open the door for more employee lawsuits. In response, De Leon is planning changes to his bill that would give hotels the option of adopting other methods of protecting housekeepers from back injuries, such as purchasing equipment to reduce strain.

Just as hotels object to the potential expense of De Leon’s bill, the hospital industry says it would incur steep costs if extra staff and equipment were required for medical facilities that already have worker-safety policies. The cost of providing a two-person lift team 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is about $375,000 per year, according to Jan Emerson-Shea, a vice president with the California Hospital Assn.

The group opposes the hospital measure, AB 1136 by Assemblyman Sandre Swanson (D-Oakland). Emerson-Shea said the organization wants the bill changed to give each hospital more flexibility to determine whether a lift team or expensive equipment is needed.

Mark Steyn on the London rioters

Steyn is a wise man, we should heed his sage advice

The London rioters are the children of dependency, the progeny of Big Government: they have been marinated in “stimulus” their entire lives. There is literally nothing you can’t get Her Majesty’s Government to pay for. From page 205 of my book:

“A man of 21 with learning disabilities has been granted taxpayers’ money to fly to Amsterdam and have sex with a prostitute.”

Hey, why not? “He’s planning to do more than just have his end away,” explained his social worker. “Refusing to offer him this service would be a violation of his human rights.”

Why do they need a Dutch hooker? Just another hardworking foreigner doing the jobs Britons won’t do? Given the reputation of English womanhood, you’d have thought this would be the one gig that wouldn’t have to be outsourced overseas.

While the British Treasury is busy writing checks to Amsterdam prostitutes, one-fifth of children are raised in homes in which no adult works – in which the weekday ritual of rising, dressing and leaving for gainful employment is entirely unknown. One-tenth of the adult population has done not a day’s work since Tony Blair took office on May 1, 1997.

If you were born into such a household, you’ve been comprehensively “stimulated” into the dead-eyed zombies staggering about the streets this past week: pathetic inarticulate subhumans unable even to grunt the minimal monosyllables to BBC interviewers desperate to appease their pathologies. C’mon, we’re not asking much: just a word or two about how it’s all the fault of government “cuts” like the leftie columnists argue. And yet even that is beyond these baying beasts. The great-grandparents of these brutes stood alone against a Fascist Europe in that dark year after the fall of France in 1940. Their grandparents were raised in one of the most peaceful and crime-free nations on the planet. Were those Englishmen of the mid-20th century to be magically transplanted to London today, they’d assume they were in some fantastical remote galaxy. If Charlton Heston was horrified to discover the Planet of the Apes was his own, Britons are beginning to realize that the remote desert island of “Lord Of The Flies” is, in fact, located just off the coast of Europe in the northeast Atlantic. Within two generations of the Blitz and the Battle of Britain, a significant proportion of the once-free British people entrusted themselves to social rewiring by liberal compassionate Big Government and thereby rendered themselves paralytic and unemployable save for nonspeaking parts in “Rise of The Planet Of The Apes.” And even that would likely be too much like hard work.

Your Good Grief, how stupid can they get moment!

From Oregon comes an unbelievably inane story about just how incompetent big government can be. Via Hot Air

The Institute for Justice will fight another interesting case on business licensing, this time in Oregon, where an 80-year-old barber with 50 years experience has been told he needs to go back to school to qualify for his license.  Just as in the case of Louisiana casket makers and tour guides in Philadelphia and Washington DC, licensing laws that threaten to kill a 50-year small business demonstrates the unholy alliance between Big Business and Big Government at the state level:

Simply astounding isn’t it? Incompetence exemplified!

No wonder the NAACP is silent on the New Black Panthers

It seems they are fairly friendly with the Panthers.

Their points are even more valid, though, because of a direct, rather than just analagous, tie between the NAACP and the Panther case. It was first reported here at the Washington Times that “Kristen Clarke, director of political participation at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in Washington, however, confirmed to The Times that she talked about the case with lawyers at the Justice Department and shared copies of the complaint with several persons. She said, however, her organization was ‘not involved in the decision to dismiss the civil complaint.'”

Ms. Clarke testified to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights a few months back that that account was wrong. But J. Christian Adams, the main lawyer who built the case against the Black Panthers, contradicted her when he testified to the commission on July 6. Here is the exchange between Mr. Adams and commission general counsel David Blackwood:

Read the whole thing. This does not surprise me in the least. The NAACP’s leadeship has tilted farther and farther to the left as time has gone by. And I am glad more and more Black Americans have started to condemn the NACCP, as I did yesterday.

If the NAACP’s membership really wants to save their organization, they should adopt the Tea Party mantra of “Throw the Bums Out!” And throw their current leadership out!

American Glob has a video of Andrew Brietbart amd Michael Meyers ripping the NAACP, as a brain dead organization of liars  who do nothing but spew racial rhetoric, and demonize Blacks who DARE stray from the Ideological Plantation the Left tries to shackle them to!
