Sooooo, the Left calls us, and by us I mean normal people, knuckle draggers?

Yet they struggle with basic math skills? Zendo Deb revels in mocking their hypocrisy

 Why Can’t Liberals Do Arithmetic?

First there was the unforgettable math-is-hard moment when Brian Williams of MSNBC and Mara Gay of the New York Times proved they can’t do math. The link to that post is below. Mara Gay immediately, or maybe the next day, started to complain that anyone who questions her ability to do math is because they are racist. While I’m sure she’s dealt with racist idiots since that day, my only complaint is that neither Gay nor Williams can do 3rd or 4th grade math, and yet are ready to lecture us on the ins and outs of finance, campaign finance, tax policy, epidemiology, and a host of other topics that involve a lot more math than dividing 500 by 329. And now we have round two.

Briahna Joy Gray, press secretary for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign, said that 500 million people in the US go bankrupt every year from medical expenses. That’s a neat trick, because there are only 329 million people in the country (according to Wiki), and fewer than 1 million go bankrupt in any year for any reason.

Of course, the truth is truly meaningless to the left so, they really are not concerned with missing honesty as often as they do. They also know the media will not call them out on such statements because they are too busy blaming Trump for anything they can.

Noted Pirate understands basic economics better than Democrats

Who could have seen this coming?

Seriously, did anyone see this coming?

(The Blaze) Target announced two years ago that it would raise the companywide minimum wage to $15 per hour by the end of 2020, winning plaudits from progressives and advocates for an increased minimum wage.

Now, with just one year before Target is scheduled to hit the magic $15 mark ($13 is the current minimum wage), it turns out that raising the minimum wage has impacted many Target employees in the exact way that opponents of mandatory minimum wage increases predict.

CNN Business spoke to numerous current and former Target employees who revealed their hours at the retail giant have been cut since Target announced its push to increase the store’s minimum wage, which for many employees means they lose their health insurance benefits. Target offers health benefits to employees who work more than 30 hours per week.

One employee, Heather, told CNN that when her hourly pay rate increased, management cut her total work hours.

“I got that dollar raise but I’m getting $200 less in my paycheck,” she said. “I have no idea how I’m going to pay rent or buy food.”

Other employees, Caren and Michael, told CNN their hours were cut substantially. Caren said she lost her health insurance — forcing her to quit her job — while Michael has had to pick up a side job just to make ends meet.

William Teach, the noted pirate I spoke of speaks TRUTH to POWER!

There are two choices when raising wages in a situation like this: cut hours or increase prices. Start raising prices and people go elsewhere.

It is called reality!

Well now, cutting back numerous regulations that punish success and hinder growth seems to be a good thing after all! Via Biz Pac

Thanks to President Trump, not only has the US Stock Market set multiple all time high records, the US GDP just soared past $19 trillion for the first time  – ever.

The second quarter US Gross Domestic Product annual growth rate released on Friday showed two times the rate from the first quarter under Trump according to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Not sure if CNN or MSNBS has covered this yet. They are likely too busy covering the Trump Eats Russian Dressing story

The Six Things Donald Trump MUST Do As President

APPOINT AN ATTORNEY GENERAL WHO WILL PROSECUTE HILLARY CLINTON
Hillary Clinton represents everything that is wrong with the American political class. She epitomizes establishment corruption and wanton criminality, and to ignore her blatantly felonious behavior is to condone it.

REPEAL & REPLACE OBAMACARE
Of all the ruinous policies enacted by the previous administration, none is so egregious and universally despised as The Affordable Care Act. It must be eradicated like the cancer that it is and replaced with a free-market-based alternative as soon as humanly possible.

BUILD THE WALL
This is the primary reason why Donald Trump was elected president, make no mistake about it, and while its construction will not, in and of itself, put an end to illegal immigration, it will symbolize a seriousness of intent with respect to border security that has been sorely lacking in our government for decades.

APPOINT ORIGINALISTS TO THE FEDERAL JUDICIARY
When it comes to our nation’s highest courts, there are essentially two types of judges who oversee them, originalists and activists. Activistic judges believe that our Constitution is a “living, breathing” document that they are free to modify from the bench at any time and for any reason they concoct. As for originalist judges, I think Justice Antonin Scalia put it best when he said: “Our manner of interpreting the Constitution is to begin with the text, and to give that text the meaning that it bore when it was adopted by the people.”

SLASH TAXES ON BUSINESS & RENEGOTIATE INTERNATIONAL TRADE DEALS
Reinvigorating the U.S. economy cannot occur without radically reducing taxes on the companies which make up its foundation. Business taxes amount to taxes on all Americans – be they CEOs, employees, stockholders or consumers – and trillions of dollars have been lost to our economy over the years due to government’s insistence on inflicting punitive taxation upon our nation’s most productive citizens. Adding insult to injury, pro-globalist trade policies like NAFTA have served to accelerate the decline of America’s economic vitality, and any attempts to reverse the trends of the past few decades without addressing these key points will prove futile.

DRASTICALLY CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING & REGULATION
Cutting government spending begins with downsizing the bureaucracies infesting it. This can be done through attrition, which simply means not hiring new federal employees to replace the ones who retire for an extended period of time. Beyond that, there are scores of agencies which should be eliminated entirely, like the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Housing & Urban Development, and the EPA for starters. Furthermore, federal regulations have become so pervasive that reducing their number by 50 percent would still leave the Federal Register with nearly 100,000 pages of growth-killing rules. Yes, certain regulatory powers must be exercised in order to stop bad people from doing harm to the rest of us, but when nanny-state know-it-alls in Washington DC decide to start telling the rest of us how much water we can use to flush our toilets or what sort of bulbs we can screw into our light fixtures, they’ve engaged in the sort of conduct that our founding fathers would have taken up arms to oppose.

Legendary Baseball Announcer Vin Scully Absolutely Destroys Socialism During Broadcast – Daily Caller

Legendary baseball announcer Vin Scully absolutely destroyed socialism with a rant Friday night during the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

“Socialism, failing to work as it always does. This time in Venezuela. You talk about giving everybody something free and all of a sudden, there’s no food to eat. And who do you think is the richest person in Venezuela? The daughter of Hugo Chavez. Hello,” Scully said during the broadcast.

Belgian Authorities Arrest 12 In Major Anti-Terror Raid – CNS

Belgian authorities have raided dozens of homes and arrested 12 suspects in a major anti-terror investigation which they said required “immediate intervention,” fearing an attack could have been close.

Across Belgium parties were being planned Saturday to watch live broadcasts of the country’s soccer team playing Ireland at the European Championships in neighboring France and some media said such events could have been the targets.

Prime Minister Charles Michel said the nation would remain “extremely vigilant, hour by hour,” but that the terror level across the nation would remain at the second-highest level, meaning a threat of an attack “is possible and likely.” Belgium has been living under such a threat level since the Nov. 22 attacks on the Brussels subway and airport which killed 32.

“It will be the case in the coming hours that we will take additional and adapted measures,” said Michel after a meeting of the nation’s security council. He refused to elaborate on the nature of the threat.

The federal prosecutor’s office said Saturday that homes and car ports were searched in 16 municipalities, mostly in and around Brussels. The statement said there were no major incidents during the raids and that no arms or explosives were found.

It said 40 people were taken for interrogation, of which 12 were arrested, and a judge will rule on their continued detention later Saturday…

“Something Is Going On”, And It’s Worse Than You Thought – Justin Raimondo
.

.
I used to wonder why in the heck right-wing commentators on Fox News kept repeating the same mantra over and over again: sitting through the Republican debates, my eyes glazed over when I heard each and every candidate denounce the Obama administration for refusing to say the Sacred Words: “radical Islamic terrorism.” What are these people talking about, I thought to myself: they’re obsessed!

In short, I wrote it off as Fox News boilerplate, until the other day when, in the wake of the Orlando massacre, Donald Trump said the following on Fox: “Something is going on. He doesn’t get it, or he gets it better than anybody understands. It’s one or the other.” Reiterating this trope later on in the same show, he averred that the President “is not tough, not smart – or he’s got something else in mind.”

The Beltway crowd went ballistic. Lindsey Graham had a hissy fit, and other Republican lawmakers started edging away from the presumptive GOP nominee. The Washington Post ran a story with the headline: “Donald Trump Suggests President Obama Was Involved With Orlando Shooting.”…

Illegals Flood Border; Already Worse Than 2015 – Universal Free Press

According to new statistics just released by the Department of Homeland Insecurity, so far this year, the number of illegal alien families invading the United States has is already exceeding the total number for all of 2015. Proving that contrary to the current Democratic administration, the border problems are anything but under control and continue to grow daily.

The new figures say that 6,788 invaders traveling as families were caught on the southwest border in May – a leap of more than 20 percent over April, and putting the total for the first eight months of the fiscal year at nearly 45,000 illegal invaders that have violated our borders.

That number is well in excess of the 2015 yearlong total of less than 40,000, though it is a slight improvement over the record pace set in 2014. At that time, the Obama administration allowed a massive invasion of over 50,000 illegals to flood the border in just one month. That is when Americans really started to understand just how ineffective the Obama administrations program to stop the flood really is.

Since that time, the Federal and local authorities have struggled trying to explain the latest surge in families, rather than figuring out how to stop the flow. In a recent attempt to explain the problem, a government lawyer told a federal judge earlier this month, that the Obama administration’s own lax enforcement policies, set in part by the courts, have enticed ever more people to make the harrowing journey. Something that only a change in administration will be able to fix.

The Justice Department’s immigration-law expert even told the judge that Illegal immigrants are abducting children on their trip north, hoping to pose as families to take advantage of the lax policies…

Doctor Listed On Psych Evaluation Carried Out On Omar Mateen By G4S Says She Never Saw Him And Was Not Living In Florida At The Time It Was Conducted – Daily Mail
.

.
A doctor who is listed on the psychological evaluation for Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen, said she did not see him and she was not even living in Florida at the time when G4S security firm ordered the evaluation.

Psychologist, Dr Carol Nudelman, who now lives in Colorado, said in a statement released through her attorneys to the Miami Herald that she never evaluated Mateen nine years ago for G4S, a security firm that was known as Wackenhut at the time.

However, Nudelman’s name appears on the document in Florida’s state records, which cleared Mateen to carry a firearm as a private security guard.

What I do know is that in September 2007, I was not living or working in Florida, I was not performing any work for Wackenhut, and I did not administer any type of examination to Omar Mateen,’ Nudelman said in the statement…

‘That Is Not My Question’: Trey Gowdy Absolutely Grills DHS Official On Second Amendment, Due Process – The Blaze

Last December, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) pressed a Department of Homeland Security official about about the idea that American citizens on the terrorist watchlist should be denied the right to own a gun. In light of the recent terrorist attack in Orlando, Gowdy re-posted the video of his back-and-forth with DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary, Kelli Ann Burriesci, to his personal Facebook page.

To combat the common liberal call for gun control that follows terror attacks, Gowdy reminded a confused Burriesci that the right of every U.S. citizen to own a firearm is is affirmed in the Constitution, and that there’s a certain “process” that takes place before that right is stripped.

“What process is currently afforded an American citizen before they go on that list?” Gowdy said.

Burriesci denied that such a process exists. She casually added, however, that those who “feel that they are unduly placed on that list” can just “petition the government” to be removed.

“Yes, there is,” Gowdy contended. “When I say ‘process,’ I’m actually using half of the term ‘due process,’ which is a phrase we find in the Constitution.”

“Can you name another constitutional right that is chilled until you find out it is chilled, and then you have to petition the government to get it back?” he continued.

“Sir, there are strict criteria before anybody…“ Burriesci began.

“That is not my question,” Gowdy interjected. “My question is what process is afforded a United States citizen before that person’s constitutional right is infringed?”…

Illegal Immigrant Charged With Murder In California Fire Had Prior Arrests, Was Never Deported – Fox News

The suspect charged with murder in connection with a vacant building fire in Los Angeles was in the United States illegally and had a string of arrests to his name – but the feds never deported him, officials said Friday.

Johnny Sanchez, a 21-year-old citizen of Honduras, was initially arrested in 2012 for crossing the southeastern California border illegally, the Los Angeles Times reported. Authorities said they released him because he had no criminal history or previous immigration violations at the time.

He was arrested again in January on suspicion of domestic violence and twice in the ensuing months on suspicion of drug possession, officials said.

After he crossed the border, authorities reportedly placed him under supervision and ordered Sanchez to report to them regularly – but he stopped doing so in 2014, the Times adds.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement never started the process of deporting him, spokeswoman Virginia Kice said, adding that the reason why was unclear. She told the newspaper it’s ICE policy “to focus on individuals who pose a public safety threat.”

The fire on Monday killed five homeless people. Four of the badly burned bodies weren’t found until Tuesday afternoon, when search dogs located them under a heap of debris on the second floor…

After Lefty Claims Firing AR-15 Gave Him PTSD, 7-Year-Old Girl Gives Him Humiliating Shooting Lesson – BizPac Review

.
A video of a seven-year-old girl shooting an AR-15 rifle is being offered in response to a New York Daily News reporter who whined about the “horrifying” experiencing of firing the weapon.

In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Orlando by a radicalized Muslim gunman that claimed 49 lives, Daily News’ Gersh Kuntzman went to a gun range in Philadelphia to fire an AR-15 – the journalist explained that he wanted to “better understand the firepower of military-style assault weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.”

His reaction went viral, for all the wrong reasons.

“It felt to me like a bazooka – and sounded like a cannon… But mostly, I was just terrified,” he wrote of the experience…

Egypt’s Ex-President Mursi Gets Life Sentence In Qatar Spy Case – NewsMax

Egypt’s former President Mohamed Mursi was jailed for life, while six people, including two Al-Jazeera staff members, had death sentences affirmed by a Cairo criminal court in a case linked to passing state secrets to Qatar.

The death sentences had been referred to the Grand Mufti, the government’s top religious official, for ratification. Mursi and two others who served in the government during his one-year presidency were given the standard life sentence. The verdicts can be appealed.

The judge, Mohamed Fahmy, said religious authorities who reviewed the case found that what the defendants had “surpassed espionage,” because what they accomplished no spy could have done.

The two Jazeera journalists were identified as Alaa Omar Mohamed and Ibrahim Mohamed Helal. They were tried in absentia.

Egyptian officials have claimed the Qatar-based satellite channel is sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood, a movement that fielded Mursi for office and was branded a terrorist organization after his July 2013 ouster.

Mursi, who was pushed from power in a military-backed popular uprising, has already been sentenced to death in connection with a prison breakout at the time of the 2011 uprising against his predecessor, Hosni Mubarak. He has also been sentenced to life in prison in connection with another espionage case tied to the Palestinian Hamas movement…

The Rio Olympics: Another Embarrassing Mess From Incompetent Globalists – Milo Yiannopoulos
.

.
Isn’t globalism great? Diplomats and heads of state meet in well-publicized meetings (or not-so-well-publicized ones) and convince each other that their country is just as capable, advanced and developed as everyone else’s.

“Don’t listen to the jingoists on the internet,” I imagine they say. “In a globalized economy, Rio is just as good as London.”

As it turns out, not so much.

The acting Governor of Rio de Janeiro has declared a state of financial disaster just two months before the Olympic Games is due to be hosted in the city.

In a statement, the Governor’s office said, “The financial crisis has brought several difficulties in essential public services and it could cause the total collapse of public security, health care, education, urban mobility and environmental management.”…

Violent Gitmo Prisoner Obama Released Is Missing; Search Begins – Right Wing News

As his last few years in office begin winding down, President Obama has been speeding to release as many dangerous terrorists from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility as he can before he has to exit the White House. Now we’ve discovered that one of those terrorists is missing.

Conservatives have been warning of Obama’s efforts to return terrorists to the battlefields of the Middle East since day one, but neither the left nor the media have paid any attention.

Now the Washington Post is reporting that one of Obama’s terror pals has disappeared after being released.

A former Guantanamo Bay prisoner transferred to Uruguay in 2014 has vanished and is believed to have left the country under uncertain circumstances, U.S. officials said.

Law enforcement is now searching for the former detainee, Syrian national Jihad Ahmed Mustafa Dhiab, in Brazil, a U.S. official said.

“We are coordinating with officials in Brazil and Uruguay to determine his whereabouts,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive incident.

While the Obama administration declined to comment publicly about the case, officials believe that Dhiab may have crossed into Brazil without documents that would allow him to enter that country legally…

Migrants Burn Down Asylum Centre After Not Receiving Ramadan Wake Up Call – Breitbart
.

.
A massive fire at Düsseldorf’s major international trade fair grounds yesterday has been followed by reports that the blaze was set deliberately by migrants who were angry because of Ramadan.

Officially, some 160 migrants were resident at hall 18 of the Messe Düsseldorf conference centre, but it was a facility plagued by racial conflict which had seen violence spark before. Düsseldorf’s Express newspaper reports these conflicts were not between European German staff and their guests, but between the predominantly Arab residents, and a minority of Afghans who sided with the security staff running the facility – who were mainly Iranian.

According to the testimony of “several burly Moroccan refugees” which the paper had spoken to even as the hall burnt down, the Iranians employed by the German state to look after other migrants from around the world had “deliberately” not woken the Arabs up in time for their Ramadan breakfast following a long run dispute.

Just three weeks ago there had been another, much smaller fire at the exhibition centre as a migrant set fire to his mattress in protest against the accommodation…

D.C. Passes $15 Minimum Wage – Washington Free Beacon

The Washington, D.C., City Council passed a measure to raise the minimum wage to $15 for hourly employees on Tuesday and increased the tipped wage to $5 an hour.

The Democrat-controlled council unanimously voted to hike the district’s hourly minimum wage from $10.50 to $15 an hour, a 43 percent increase. The council took up the matter as union-backed groups campaigned to put a $15 wage on the November ballot.

That measure would have forced all employees, including tipped workers, to receive an hourly rate more than twice as high as the federal minimum of $7.25. Mayor Muriel Bowser brought the $15 wage to the council in March.

Michael Saltsman, research director of the free market Employment Policies Institute, called the measure the latest in the “fight against common sense.” California struck a deal to enact a $15 minimum wage by 2022 in March after labor activists petitioned to put the proposal on the November ballot. Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo passed similar legislation in April.

Saltsman said the nearly 50 percent wage hike would force businesses to cut hours, stop hiring, and raise prices on consumers to make up for higher labor costs.

“Unfortunately, it’s employees and small businesses who will pay the tab,” Saltsman said.

The bill could have gone further, as activists waged a months-long campaign to include tipped employees, such as restaurant wait staff, for the wage. Federal law mandates a $7.25 wage rate for regular workers, but employers only need to pay tipped workers $2.15 per hour…

Baltimore Cops To Sue Marilyn Mosby For ‘Malicious Prosecution’ – Daily Caller
.

.
Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby will face a slew of new counts, including malicious prosecution and false arrest in a lawsuit brought by two Baltimore cops, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

Sgt. Alicia White and Officer William Porter, two officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, filed suit May 2 against Mosby and Maj. Sam Cogen of the Baltimore Sheriff’s office for defamation and invasion of privacy. The suit alleges Mosby and Cogen knew the charges were trumped up, but filed them anyway to quell the riots that had ravaged the city.

Michael Glass, the lawyer for the officers in the suit, told TheDCNF that he plans to amend the lawsuit to include “likely a count of malicious prosecution, false arrest, false imprisonment, violation of the Maryland declaration of rights, article 24 and 26.” He said the they’re currently working on modifying the complaint, and the changes will be official in the next few weeks, likely by the end of June…

Feds Spend Nearly $20,000 To Settle Every Refugee – Washington Examiner

Federal taxpayers are on the hook for nearly $20,000 just to settle each refugee and asylum seeker, who are then immediately eligible for cash welfare, food stamps, housing and medical aid, according to a new report on the “refugee industry.”

The report provided federal budget figures showing that the government spends $19,884 on each refugee the U.S. takes in.

And that number is set to jump if President Obama gets his way and brings in an additional 10,000 Syrian refugees in this year.

The report from the Negative Population Growth Inc. said that the U.S. is currently accepting about 95,000 refugees and asylees. That is in addition to the over 500,000 legal and illegal immigrants coming to the U.S.

It focused on the industry created to accept the $1.8 billion in federal support to help refugees settle and sign up for further cash awards from Uncle Sam. The refugee agencies get a small portion, or about $1,875 per refugee they help. The rest goes to the United Nations, which helps to determine eligible refugees, and state agencies.

The State Department spends about $1.28 billion, and Health and Human Services another $609 million…

As Hunger Mounts, Venezuelans Turn To Trash For Food – Associated Press
.

.
Until recently, Julio Noguera worked at a bakery. Now he spends his evenings searching through the garbage for food.

“I come here looking for food because if I didn’t, I’d starve to death,” Noguera said as he sorted through a pile of moldy potatoes. “With things like they are, no one helps anyone and no one gives away meals.”

Across town, unemployed people converge every dusk at a trash heap on a downtown Caracas sidewalk to pick through rotten fruit and vegetables tossed out by nearby shops. They are frequently joined by small business owners, college students and pensioners – people who consider themselves middle class even though their living standards have long ago been pulverized by triple-digit inflation, food shortages and a collapsing currency.

Venezuela’s poverty had eased during the administration of the late President Hugo Chavez. But a study by three leading Caracas universities found that 76 percent of Venezuelans are now under the poverty line, compared with 52 percent in 2014…

Migrants in Germany committed or tried to commit some 69,000 crimes in the first quarter of 2016, according to a police report that could raise unease, especially among anti-immigrant groups, about Chancellor Angela Merkel’s liberal migrant policy.

There was a record influx of more than a million migrants into Germany last year and concerns are now widespread about how Europe’s largest economy will manage to integrate them and ensure security.

The report from the BKA federal police showed that migrants from northern Africa, Georgia and Serbia were disproportionately represented among the suspects.

Absolute numbers of crimes committed by Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis – the three biggest groups of asylum seekers in Germany – were high but given the proportion of migrants that they account for, their involvement in crimes was “clearly disproportionately low”, the report said.

See? It’s OK because it is “disproportionately low.” So if you were beaten, sexually assaulted or “unlawfully detained” by someone who probably shouldn’t have been there in the first place you can take great comfort in the fact that there were a whole lot more who could have beaten, sexually assaulted or kidnapped you.

To this day, however, if you suggest that the United States might want to work out a functional screening system for this jihadist exportation migrant crisis, you’re accused of being Islamophobic, racist, and not really American because, hey, Irish people in Boston or something…

Mitch McConnell Complains About ‘Unreasonable’ Conservatives, Points Blame At Talk Radio – Daily Signal

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell takes pride in his reputation as a great compromiser. But the Republican leader won’t concede on one point: He refuses to let conservatives fight the White House for lower spending levels.

McConnell, R-Ky., outlined his political roadmap for government spending on Tuesday, sketching out the routes he sees available: an omnibus package, individual appropriations bills, or a government shutdown.

“Here’s the choice: You either pass each individual appropriations bill or you pass the omnibus, which gives the president all the power, and the ability, to argue that somehow we’re shutting down the government if we don’t go along with it,” McConnell told an audience at the American Enterprise Institute…

State Dept. Claims It Would Take 75 Years To Compile Clinton Emails – Breitbart

The State Department claims it would take 75 years to compile the 450,000 pages of emails between Hillary Clinton and her top aides, meaning it will be able to satisfy two Freedom of Information Act lawsuits from the Republican National Committee no later than 2091.

“Given the Department’s current [Freedom of Information Act] workload and the complexity of these documents, it can process about 500 pages a month, meaning it would take approximately 16-and-2/3 years to complete the review of the Mills documents, 33-and-1/3 years to finish the review of the Sullivan documents, and 25 years to wrap up the review of the Kennedy documents – or 75 years in total,” said a filing from the State Department to the FOIA court, as related by The Hill.

“The volume of FOIA requests received by the Department has tripled since 2008,” complained State Dept. spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau. “In fiscal year 2015 alone we received approximately 22,000 FOIA requests. The requests are also frequently more complex and seek larger volumes of documents, requiring significantly more time, resources, and interagency coordination. While we have increased staffing for our FOIA office, our available resources are still nonetheless constrained.”

“That is an incredible number,” another State Department spokesman, Mark Toner, conceded to the Washington Examiner. “It’s a very broad range involving a number of people over a period of four years, and it’s not an outlandish estimation, believe it or not.”

This should conclusively refute the State Department Inspector General’s accusation that the department constantly provides slow, inaccurate, and incomplete responses to FOIA requests – delays that always seem to have the magical result of producing vital information after the November elections. We’ll have this trove of Clinton correspondence in hand with plenty of time to go before the 2092 elections…

Trump’s Historic Run Shatters Vote Records – Universal Free Press

Even while Mr. Trump was catching heat for his latest comments concerning the La Raza membership of the federal judge presiding over a suit against the now defunct Trump University, Donald Trump closed the door on the Republican nomination for President by winning all five of the remaining primaries on Tuesday. But he did not just win the elections, he made history in doing it.

With the wins in New Jersey, South Dakota, Montana, New Mexico and California. Trump has racked up wins in the last 16 Republican contests. Currently, Mr. Trump has collected some 1536 delegates, or about 300 more than what is needed to secure the Republican Party’s nomination.

The contest started the year with 17 Candidates for President. This was more candidates than any major party in history. But during the campaigns, Mr. Trump managed to accumulate more wins than any other Republican or Democrat candidate in this year’s race, a total of 36 in all counting caucuses. He also has more primary wins with 33 and leads all candidates in percent of overall wins and in percent of primary wins…

Gowdy Releases Bombshell Report Proving Dem Insiders Obstructed Benghazi Investigation – AFF

Democrat members of the House Benghazi Select Committee have done everything humanly possible to sabotage the efforts to get to the truth about what really happened that tragic night when 4 Americans senselessly lost their lives in Libya on September 11, 2012.

After nearly 2 years, the committee’s investigation is nearing the end and The chairman, Trey “Bulldog” Gowdy has promised to release a final report which has the Democrat members scrambling like maniacs. The Dems are demanding a bigger role in drafting the report and Gowdy has responded in a scathing letter sent to the top committee Democrat, Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings.

In the letter, Gowdy wrote, “Despite your efforts to undermine and obstruct our fact-centered work, rest assured all members of the committee will have the opportunity to review the report and offer changes in a manner consistent with the rules of the House. Then, after the committee completes its work, the American people will be able to read the report, the supporting evidence and transcripts, and judge for themselves the value and fairness of our investigation.”.

Here is the letter in it’s entirety:

The Honorable Elijah E. Cummings
Ranking Member
Select Committe On The Events Surrounding The 2012 Terrorist Attack On Benghazi
U.S. House Of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Woman Goes Berzerk When Store Declines Her Food Stamps – Daily Caller

A large woman destroyed a convenience store after having her food stamp benefits card declined, according to a video uploaded to Live Leak Thursday.

“Call the police, call the police,” the unnamed woman says repeatedly in the video as she lumbers around the store causing havoc. “Call the police. Do your job, do your job.”

The woman had already knocked some food on the floor before one patron decided to start filming the incident. She appears belligerent as she repeats inaudible and barely audible statements. The woman walks with a limp from an apparent injury as she threw food around. She even throws an empty container of Cheetos at a man who tried to calm her down.

A small crowd slowly gathered around her but were unable to stop the rampage. She lunges at some candy and snacks, before a store worker manages to grab her. The worker gets her outside the store with the help of some patrons. The video ends by showing the floor covered in candy and snacks.

The unnamed woman began destroying the convenience store after her Electronic Benefits Transfer card was declined. The cards are the main way food stamp recipients are able to access their benefits. They work like a personal debit cards, except they can only be used to purchased authorized items like food and basic necessities.

The food stamp program is the largest food assistance welfare service in the country. The Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers the program in coordination with state agencies…

Chelsea’s Husband’s Hedge Fund A Total Disaster, Closes After Losing 90% Of Its Value – TruthFeed

Hillary Clinton’s son-in-law, Marc Mezvinsky is finally shutting down the Greece-focused fund, after losing nearly 90% of its value. Investors were told last month that Eaglevale Hellenic Opportunity would finally be put out of its misery and would shutter.

The closure comes as the worst possible time: we are confident that Donald Trump will be quick to work it into his political attack routine.

Mr. Chelsea Clinton and his partners began raising money in 2011 from investors for the firm’s flagship fund. Since then, that portfolio has posted uneven performance. A Stanford University graduate, Mr. Mezvinsky worked at Goldman for eight years before leaving to join a private equity firm. He left that job to form Eaglevale with two longtime Goldman partners, Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon. The hedge fund firm is named after a bridge in Central Park.

As noted above, some of the firm’s earliest investors were Goldman partners, including Lloyd C. Blankfein, Goldman’s chief executive officer, who let Eaglevale use his name in marketing the flagship fund. Ironically this is in addition to the hundreds of thousands of dollars that Goldman paid to Marc’s mother-in-law…

An Out-Of-Control EPA Loses Yet Another Court Case – Investor’s Business Daily

When Wyoming rancher Andy Johnson decided to create a stock pond for horses and cattle on his 8-acre property, he did what any conscientious landowner would do. He got permits from both the state and local government before moving any dirt.

What he didn’t count on was a power-mad Environmental Protection Agency, which in January 2014 said Johnson’s pond violated the Clean Water Act – even though the CWA exempts stock ponds – told him to get rid of it, and threatened him with a $37,500 fine for every day he delayed.

Rather than cave to federal thuggery, Johnson refused the order, and then sued the EPA with the help of the invaluable Pacific Legal Foundation. Environmental experts he commissioned said the pond was exempt, and served as a habitat for migratory birds, fish and wildlife.

More than two years later, Johnson won. In a settlement reached with the EPA, he gets to keep his pond, he won’t need to get a federal permit, the EPA fines have been removed, and all Johnson agreed to do was plant some willow trees and limit access to a portion of his pond for a while…

Dry Rot In Academia – Thomas Sowell

Jason Riley has now joined the long and distinguished list of people invited – and then disinvited – to give a talk on a college campus, in this case Virginia Tech.

Mr. Riley is a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal and, perhaps most relevantly, author of a very insightful book titled Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed.

In short, Jason Riley’s views on race are different from the views that prevail on most college campuses. At one time, 50 years ago or earlier, exposing students to a different viewpoint was considered to be a valuable part of their education. But that was before academia – and the education system in general – became virtually a monopoly of the political left.

Today one can literally go from kindergarten to becoming a graduate student seeking a Ph.D., without ever hearing a vision of the world that conflicts with the vision of the left.

Conservative critics who object on grounds that the views of the left are wrong miss the point. Regardless of whose views become a monopoly, education suffers. John Stuart Mill understood this back in the middle of the 19th century…

Astoria residents packed into the Variety Boys & Girls Club on Monday night to voice their concerns about Mayor de Blasio’s proposed $2.5 billion Brooklyn Queens Connector (BQX). Many argued that the streetcar, which the mayor has called a “noble experiment” in outer-borough transit, would burden low and middle-income taxpayers while serving real estate interests and high-rise residents along the Queens waterfront.

State Department “Unable To Find” Hillary Emails To IT Aide, Apologizes For Incompetence – Zero Hedge

To say the least, it’s going to be an interesting couple of months for Hillary Clinton. As the FBI probe into Clinton’s handling of classified information makes its way to Clinton herself, the Clinton camp will also need be focused on trying to stave off attacks by GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

More on the FBI probe in a moment, but first, one of the key areas that Trump will inevitably be focused on is trying to frame Hillary Clinton as just another typical insider who despite the rhetoric, is as cozy with Wall Street as any other bought and paid for politician. To that end, the Republicans are not letting go of the fact that Hillary has yet to release any transcripts of her speeches given to Wall Street.

As The Hill reports, Republican operatives are scouring the country for transcripts, notes, or secret recordings of those Wall Street speeches that the Clinton camp refuses to discuss in any great detail – probably because Goldman Sachs alone paid Clinton $675,000 to speak. We’re going to go out on a limb here, but Clinton probably was not brought in to speak multiple times by Wall Street firms just so they could hear how bad they were, which is precisely why the GOP wants to get its hands on anything they can related to those speeches (recall: The Real Reason Hillary Clinton Refuses To Release Her Wall Street Transcripts)…

Man Seeks Restraining Order Against God – Times Of Israel

An Israeli man has petitioned the Haifa Magistrate’s Court for a restraining order against God, claiming the Almighty has been particularly unkind to him.

The initiator of the request, a resident of the northern port city, represented himself in court, the Walla news site reported on Wednesday.

A protocol of the hearing noted that God did not turn up for the session, although it did not specify how the court determined the Omnipresent was not in fact there, as opposed to merely exercising the right to remain silent.

The petitioner, who was not named in the report, noted that he had tried to obtain the restraining order from police for the past three years but that police had merely sent a patrol car to his home on 10 occasions.

He argued that over a three-year period God, had exhibited a seriously negative attitude toward him, although details of just what divine mischief he had borne the brunt of were not mentioned in the report…

Germany Funds Classes To Teach Migrants To Pick Up Girls, Provides ‘Sex Tips’ Booklets – Breitbart

A new video shows how the German government is funding a program teaching migrants how to flirt with German girls.

Released on YouTube, the clip shows what so-called integration classes for migrants in Germany really look like. A youth centre in the town of Eichstatt is helping migrants to integrate in a very bizarre way, by showing them how to effectively flirt with and hit on German women.

The clip starts by showing several migrants in a room with a few German girls, all of whom appear to be very young. The migrants are being taught how to flirt with a German called called Jenny.

The Insane Hidden Tax Burden Quietly Eating Up Your Paycheck – John Gray

There are few things I dislike more than paying taxes. As Americans, a third of all your hard earned dollars is confiscated by the U.S. government. Most of us get to determine what we do with our money – but not when it comes to taxes.

However, there is the argument that taxes are a function of our democratic system. Those taxes are the result of laws implemented by freely elected representatives. If anything, we – the voters – are as much to blame for the muddied tax codes as are the nitwit politicians we elect.

But not all taxes feel Constitutional, and not all taxes are the result of our representative government – particularly the taxes paid in the form of regulatory costs. Regulations increase the cost of everything – including the cost of our housing, clothing and food. In fact, they even impact our wages. What makes this form of tax so nefarious is that rarely do our elected representatives get to have a say in the matter; rather, America’s regulatory state is overseen by an authoritarian administrative state, ruled by unelected bureaucrats.

Nobel Prize economist, F.A. Hayek lamented the dangers of these unelected bureaucrats, which he called the “public administration movement,” in his book The Constitution of Liberty. Hayek believed these bureaucrats were often antagonistic, if not ignorant of, the rule of law, directing “[T]heir heaviest attacks against the traditional safeguards of individual liberty, such as the rule of law, constitutional restraints, judicial review and the conception of a “fundamental law.””…

Nation’s Largest Health Insurer Will No Longer Participate In Several Obamacare Exchanges Following $1B In Losses

Obamacare Meltdown: Health Insurers Suffer Massive Losses – WorldNetDaily

.

.
The nation’s largest health insurer, UnitedHealth, announced Tuesday it has lost at least $1 billion under Obamacare’s insurance exchanges, and it can no longer afford to participate in a number of states, including Arkansas, Georgia and Michigan.

UnitedHealth is just one of the many health-insurance companies sounding the alarm that they will have to drastically hike premiums in the coming year or consider exiting the individual health-care marketplace in the wake of massive losses sustained over the first couple of years under the rules of President Obama’s signature health-care law.

A report in the Hill newspaper quotes Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini as well as multiple policy experts concluding the current track is unsustainable for the private sector insurance. Furthermore, a report from McKinsey & Company shows insurers lost money in the individual market in 41 of 50 states in 2014.

Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner told WND and Radio America she hears the very same thing from health insurance providers.

“I have talked with insurance company CEOs. I’ve talked with people in professional associations,” Turner said. “They’re very worried because they were virtually assured by the Obama administration that the market would have stabilized by now.”

She said this is not only a distress call to policy makers but a warning to consumers that much higher premiums are on the horizon.

“These reports and these announcements and these news stories are really warnings from the insurance industry, ‘Get ready because our premiums are going to have to be much higher if we’re going to continue to participate in the market. And if you tell us that you’re not going to approve those premium increases, we will drop out,’” Turner said.

Turner said insurance companies bought the Obama promise “that there would be enough young, healthy people in the markets to be able to offset the sicker, older people.” But something happened on the way to huge profits guaranteed through the individual mandate.

“The escape hatches [the health-care law] created, the weakness of the individual mandate has meant that they wind up with many more people who are sicker and using many more health care services than anticipated, and the premiums were not set to adjust to that,” Turner explained.

She said the bad financial ideas underpinning the law are being exposed.

“They also thought they were going to get this other money through a lot of risk corridor reinsurance payments as well as the tax credits that people get to purchase premiums,” she said. “So they thought all of those were going to make this a stable market. It’s only a stable market in the sense that the government is propping it up artificially with all these other funds and it’s not enough.”

It’s only a stable market in the sense that the government is propping it up artificially with all these other funds and it’s not enough.”

Turner said insurance companies are also getting crushed by people gaming the system. She said people sign up for coverage, get a lot of expensive health care right away and then cancel their coverage, only to sign up at the same government-guaranteed rate in the next open enrollment period.

She said this whole sea of red ink exposes the fundamental flaws with the law.

“It’s not a sustainable market,” Turner said. “You cannot have government dictating how a market works. Only the market can do that and we’re seeing the failure of government-controlled health care.”

Sign up for free news alerts from WND.com, America’s independent news network.

The insurance industry is likely to elicit few tears from opponents of the Obama health-care law as conservative activists implored companies not to get on board the Obama bandwagon. The industry didn’t listen, but Turner said watching them leave the marketplace is not an option, either.

“We need the private health insurance companies to continue to participate and to offer insurance if we are going to have a private market,” she said. “You don’t want them to fail.”

Turner is hopeful that the issue will get a lot of attention in the 2016 election season. She is confident that despite the rhetoric of some Democratic Party candidates, the American people do not want government-run health care.

“The support for single payer among the American people is as low now as it has ever been in decades,” said Turner, who advocates health competition in the private sector regulated by the states.

Obamaconomy Update: Surging Gun Sales Created 24,763 Jobs In 2015

Surging Gun Sales Created Nearly 25,000 Jobs In 2015 – Big Government

.

.
The gun industry added 24,763 jobs to the U.S. economy because of the unprecedented surge of gun sales in 2015, according to an estimate by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

The economic gain from the “wages, revenues, benefits, and taxes” associated with gun industry jobs boosted the economy by nearly $50 billion and expanded the sector’s role in the national economy by roughly 15 percent compared to 2014, says the NSSF estimate.

According to PIX 11, the jobs added in 2015 were “manufacturing and retail jobs for guns, ammunition and related supplies, like hunting gear.” The best states for such jobs were “Texas, with about 21,386, followed by California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina and Missouri.”

Breitbart News previously reported that the number of background checks for gun sales began breaking records in 2015 during the month of May.

Records were then broken in June, July, August, all the the way through March 2016, which was the 11th consecutive month of record background checks for gun sales. The streak for record background checks also included Black Friday 2015, which surpassed all previous Black Friday records. A staggering 185,345 background checks were performed on Black Friday alone.

According to FBI figures, a total of 23,141,970 background checks were performed in the U.S. during 2015. That is over 2,000,000 checks higher than the previous record of 21,093,273, set in 2013.

Over 40% Of Federal Student Loan Recipients Aren’t Making Payments On Their Debts

Shocking Statistic: Over 40% Of Student Borrowers Don’t Make Payments – Zero Hedge

.

.
Over 40 percent of those in student loan programs have stopped making payments. Many borrowers have never made any payments.

The department of education (a useless body that I would eliminate in one second if given the chance), cannot figure out why this is happening.

“We obviously have not cracked that nut but we want to keep working on it,” said Ted Mitchell, the Education Department’s under secretary.

The Wall Street Journal reports More Than 40% of Student Borrowers Aren’t Making Payments.
.

More than 40% of Americans who borrowed from the government’s main student-loan program aren’t making payments or are behind on more than $200 billion owed, raising worries that millions of them may never repay.

While most have since left school and joined the workforce, 43% of the roughly 22 million Americans with federal student loans weren’t making payments as of Jan. 1, according to a quarterly snapshot of the Education Department’s $1.2 trillion student-loan portfolio.

About 1 in 6 borrowers, or 3.6 million, were in default on $56 billion in student debt, meaning they had gone at least a year without making a payment. Three million more owing roughly $66 billion were at least a month behind.

Meantime, another three million owing almost $110 billion were in “forbearance” or “deferment,” meaning they had received permission to temporarily halt payments due to a financial emergency, such as unemployment. The figures exclude borrowers still in school and those with government-guaranteed private loans.

Navient Corp., which services student loans and offers payment plans tied to income, says it attempts to reach each borrower on average 230 to 300 times – through letters, emails, calls and text messages – in the year leading up to his or her default. Ninety percent of those borrowers, which include federal borrowers as well as those who hold private loans, never respond and more than half never make a single payment before they default, the company says.

.
Crisis Easy to Explain

Carlo Salerno, an economist who studies higher education and has consulted for the private student-lending industry, noted that the government imposes virtually no credit checks on borrowers, requires no cosigners and doesn’t screen people for their preparedness for college-level course work. “On what planet does a financing vehicle with those kinds of terms and those kinds of performance metrics make sense,” he said.

I could easily come up with numerous reasons off the top of my head.
.

1. Being in the workforce and having a job are two different things.

2. Having a job and making enough money to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars is yet another thing.

3. Some feel cheated by the system, as well they should.

4. Many have figured out the consequences of default are small. The worst that can happen is wage garnishment. Should that happen, one can always find another low-paying job, buying time until they are discovered again.

5. Some never intended to pay back the loans in the first place. To those borrowers, it’s all free money for a few years. They will stay in school as long as they can. If by some miracle they actually graduate (or are kicked out), they never make a payment.

.
Blame Bush!

A large portion of the blame for this mess goes to George W. Bush. Seriously.

The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act enacted April 20, 2005 made it much more difficult to discharge debts in bankruptcy.

Among other things, “BAPCPA amended the law to broaden the types of educational (“student”) loans that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy absent proof of “undue hardship.” The nature of the lender became irrelevant. Even loans from “for-profit” or “non-governmental” entities are not dischargeable.

The Deflation Guarantee Act of 2005

I predicted this mess when Bush signed the bill. As proof, I offer The Deflation Guarantee Act of 2005.

Here are my lead paragraphs as I wrote them at the time.
.

Today Congress passed the “The Deflation Guarantee Act of 2005” currently known as the “Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005”. Twenty years from now economists are going to be studying legislation from this Congress and signed by this administration and be wondering: “What the * were they thinking?”.

Consumer Protection Act? LMAO

Anytime this administration passes a law with the “protection” in it, assume it will do just the opposite.

.
Student Debt Highly Deflationary

I have wanted to refer back to that post on numerous occasions.

I had not done so previously because I strongly dislike my writing style in those days. I frequently used chat room talk like “LMAO” (laughing my ass off), in those early posts.

There are other aspects of my 2005 post that I dislike as well. However, I nailed the idea correctly. Student debt is a hugely deflationary force.

In the wake of that act (albeit with a bit of a delay), we saw massive amounts of seemingly reckless lending to students. Because of government guarantees, lenders did not give a damn who they lent to.

For profit universities flourished. Abuses at the University of Phoenix became rampant. And because of various lending programs that followed, education costs soared as well.

Those debts cannot be paid back, and household formation has gone into reverse. Students moved back home after graduation, and attitudes on debt have changed.

These are all debt deflation forces.

Modest Fee Request

The Department of Education will no doubt waste millions of taxpayer dollars studying this issue, only to come up with the wrong answers because students will lie.

Will anyone realistically admit “I never intended to pay back these loans”?

My modest fee for this analysis is a mere $250,000. Of that amount, I pledge $249,999.99 to the Khan Academy.

All I ask is a penny for my thoughts, saving taxpayers countless millions in useless department of education studies.

Obama’s Role

President Obama does not escape criticism for his efforts to fuel the problem.

Here’s my blast at Obama: For Profit Schools Turn Students Into Debt Zombies; It’s Time To Kill The Entire Pell Grant Program.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but I have not seen a single person take this crisis back to the logical origin, the “Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005” making student debt non-dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Manufacturing Recession Deepens: Factory Orders Drop To Five Year Low; 16 Consecutive Declines – Zero Hedge

In 60 years, the U.S. economy has not suffered a 16-month continuous YoY drop in Factory orders without being in recession. Moments ago the Department of Commerce confirmed that this is precisely what the U.S. economy did, when factory orders not only dropped for the 16th consecutive month Y/Y, after declining 1.7% from last month…

Obama In Argentina: Communism, Socialism And Capitalism Are All The Same (Video)

Obama Has His Say on Communism, Socialism And Capitalism… They’re All The Same – Independent Sentinel

.

.
Barack Obama told an audience of Argentinian youth that the differences between socialism and capitalism make interesting conversation but just pick whatever works. The ideological-left U.S. president suddenly doesn’t have an affinity for ideology.

He said in the past there was a sharp division between communists, socialists and capitalists but that is merely an intellectual argument and it’s not so today.

The Marxist in the White House is erasing the lines between two dangerous ideologies and the one that made the U.S. great, just as he erased our borders. This is a man who would be at home in communist China.

“So often in the past there has been a division between left and right, between capitalists and communists or socialists, and especially in the Americas, that’s been a big debate,” Obama said at the Buenos Aires town hall.

“Those are interesting intellectual arguments, but I think for your generation, you should be practical and just choose from what works. You don’t have to worry about whether it really fits into socialist theory or capitalist theory. You should just decide what works.”

For Obama, high taxation, wild spending, government agency domination over the people and heavy regulations work which tells you what he is.

Obama made his comments in response to a question about establishing nonprofit community organizations and said it’s important to get government and private sector investment, which for him is a sketchy relationship between Wall Street and DC.

“To president Castro, I said you’ve made great progress in educating young people [Cuban dictators indoctrinate its youth]. Every child in Cuba gets a basic education. Medical care, the life expectancy of Cubans is equivalent to the United States despite it being a very poor country because they have access to health care. That’s a huge achievement,” he said about the repressive regime. “They should be congratulated. But you drive around Havana and you see the economy is not working. It looks like it did in the 1950s.”

The US president likes socialism but also likes the capitalism, both of which he has subscribed to for the last seven years.

Then he told them not to rigidly adhere to labels as if the systems of socialism and capitalism are mere labels.

“You have to be practical in asking yourself, How do you achieve the goals of equality and inclusion, but also recognize the market system produces a lot of wealth and goods and services and innovation and it also gives individuals freedom because they have initiative, depending on the social issues you are trying to address, what works? What you’ll find is the most successful societies and economies are the ones that are rooted in a market-based system but also realize a market does not work by itself. It has to have a social and moral and ethical and community basis.”

His love of wealth redistribution and social [unfair] justice trumps all.

During his trip, he told the Cuban dictator that his revolution was like ours – it was a liberation movement – and he told Argentinians earlier in the week that he is frustrated with the separation of powers.

FLASHBACK 2012: Socialist Or Fascist – Thomas Sowell

It bothers me a little when conservatives call Barack Obama a “socialist.” He certainly is an enemy of the free market, and wants politicians and bureaucrats to make the fundamental decisions about the economy. But that does not mean that he wants government ownership of the means of production, which has long been a standard definition of socialism.

What President Obama has been pushing for, and moving toward, is more insidious: government control of the economy, while leaving ownership in private hands. That way, politicians get to call the shots but, when their bright ideas lead to disaster, they can always blame those who own businesses in the private sector.

Politically, it is heads-I-win when things go right, and tails-you-lose when things go wrong. This is far preferable, from Obama’s point of view, since it gives him a variety of scapegoats for all his failed policies, without having to use President Bush as a scapegoat all the time.

Government ownership of the means of production means that politicians also own the consequences of their policies, and have to face responsibility when those consequences are disastrous – something that Barack Obama avoids like the plague.

Thus the Obama administration can arbitrarily force insurance companies to cover the children of their customers until the children are 26 years old. Obviously, this creates favorable publicity for President Obama. But if this and other government edicts cause insurance premiums to rise, then that is something that can be blamed on the “greed” of the insurance companies.

The same principle, or lack of principle, applies to many other privately owned businesses. It is a very successful political ploy that can be adapted to all sorts of situations.

One of the reasons why both pro-Obama and anti-Obama observers may be reluctant to see him as fascist is that both tend to accept the prevailing notion that fascism is on the political right, while it is obvious that Obama is on the political left.

Back in the 1920s, however, when fascism was a new political development, it was widely – and correctly – regarded as being on the political left. Jonah Goldberg’s great book “Liberal Fascism” cites overwhelming evidence of the fascists’ consistent pursuit of the goals of the left, and of the left’s embrace of the fascists as one of their own during the 1920s.

Mussolini, the originator of fascism, was lionized by the left, both in Europe and in America, during the 1920s. Even Hitler, who adopted fascist ideas in the 1920s, was seen by some, including W.E.B. Du Bois, as a man of the left.

It was in the 1930s, when ugly internal and international actions by Hitler and Mussolini repelled the world, that the left distanced themselves from fascism and its Nazi offshoot – and verbally transferred these totalitarian dictatorships to the right, saddling their opponents with these pariahs.

What socialism, fascism and other ideologies of the left have in common is an assumption that some very wise people – like themselves – need to take decisions out of the hands of lesser people, like the rest of us, and impose those decisions by government fiat.

The left’s vision is not only a vision of the world, but also a vision of themselves, as superior beings pursuing superior ends. In the United States, however, this vision conflicts with a Constitution that begins, “We the People…”

That is why the left has for more than a century been trying to get the Constitution’s limitations on government loosened or evaded by judges’ new interpretations, based on notions of “a living Constitution” that will take decisions out of the hands of “We the People,” and transfer those decisions to our betters.

The self-flattery of the vision of the left also gives its true believers a huge ego stake in that vision, which means that mere facts are unlikely to make them reconsider, regardless of what evidence piles up against the vision of the left, and regardless of its disastrous consequences.

Only our own awareness of the huge stakes involved can save us from the rampaging presumptions of our betters, whether they are called socialists or fascists. So long as we buy their heady rhetoric, we are selling our birthright of freedom.
