There are still more people dying in Baltimore from gunshot wounds than the coronavirus pandemic, a trend that “social distancing” hasn’t slowed down very much. It’s gotten so bad that the mayor felt compelled to beg the gangs to stop shooting people so they can save hospital beds for the COVID-19 patients. That’s why it seemed vital for the state legislature to finally push through some tough new gun crime laws designed to get some of these shooters behind bars and keep them there.
Unfortunately for the residents of Maryland, Democrats in the legislature didn’t see it that way. The recent package of bills intended to reduce gun violence was once again rejected. (Free Beacon)
Maryland Democrats rejected a bill aimed at combating gun violence as Baltimore mayor Jack Young publicly begged residents to stop shooting each other so hospitals could be used to treat coronavirus patients…
[Governor Larry] Hogan’s Violent Firearms Offenders Act would make the theft of a firearm a felony and increase penalties for those who repeatedly carry illegal guns or use a gun while drug dealing. The bill passed the state Senate on March 10 following a contentious back-and-forth between lawmakers. Democrats successfully removed the legislation’s mandatory minimum sentencing increase, arguing it would punish violent criminals too severely.
Odd? No, sadly Virginia Democrats buried legislation that would have gotten tougher on violent criminals at the same time they were pushing to take legal gun owners firearms away. Priorities!
What is wrong with our world? Well, many things, like the death of common sense, for example. And yes, common sense dictates that those who commit violent crimes deserve should not be treated with kids gloves. Wheelgun explains
“The criminal justice system has to get serious about how they deal with some of these juveniles,” CPD Dep. Supt. Anthony Riccio said on Friday. “A lot of what we see are the same crews doing it over and over again. So, we’re gonna have to definitely address the problem of juveniles and the crime that they’re committing.”
Riccio made the remarks as he announced the reconstitution of a multi-agency carjacking task force. He said 117 vehicular hijackings had been reported in 2020 as of earlier this week, up from 67 during the same time in 2019.
Yes, the issue, it seems is the “well they are just kids” logic. They may be “just kids” but, if they are committing violent crimes, they need to be dealt with accordingly.
Whenever I see Newsom’s image on TV, I know that some form of idiocy is about to be reported. I know this because, well, Governor Newsom is the walking definition of a knuckle-dragging Marxist. And, again, just this morning, Governor Goober has come through once again
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, on Tuesday signed a bill that no longer requires any “able-bodied person 18 years of age or older” in the state to help an officer who requests assistance during an arrest.
The Sacramento Bee reported that the old law, the California Posse Comitatus Act of 1872, was common in the country’s early days, but Sen. Bob Hertzberg, a Los Angeles Democrat who sponsored the bill, called the old law a “vestige of a bygone era.” The law was employed to help catch runaway slaves, the report said.
The old law made it a misdemeanor that carried a fine of up to $1,000 for refusing to help a police officer who requested assistance during an arrest.
The report said Newsom did not issue a statement after signing the bill.
The Left REALLY has it in for law enforcement it seems. What good will come from this bill? Maybe more bad people will evade arrest, and commit more felonies? Maybe they will commit violent felonies which Gov. Newsom can blame on guns. He certainly loves doing that. Maybe Marxifornia can then pass more gun control measures even though the many gun control acts they have passed have done nothing to stop mass shootings, armed robberies, etc.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has signed off on legislation banning schools in the state from suspending students for disruptive behavior.
Senate Bill 419, signed into law by Newsom on Monday, will amend the California Education Code to prohibit public and charter schools in the state from suspending students in grades 4-8 for “disrupting school activities or otherwise willfully defying the valid authority of those school personnel engaged in the performance of their duties.”
Existing law already prohibited schools from suspending or recommending expulsion for students enrolled in kindergarten or in grades 1-3 for such actions.
The legislation is slated to take effect at the start of July 2020 and will prohibit the suspension of students in grades 6-8 , specifically, for such acts until July 1, 2025.
Without discipline, and respect for teacher authority, a school cannot teach the students that DO behave. But, social justice warriors like Newsom care not because DISPROPORTIONATE
“Because it is so subjective, suspensions based on Section 48900(k) raise serious concerns about their disproportionate impact on students of color and other vulnerable student groups- including students with disabilities and/or those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and/or gender non-conforming,” the organization said.
The group added that research “confirms that there is even greater disproportionality for students in these groups suspended for low level, subjective offenses, like defiance/disruption, compared to higher level, more objective offenses.”
In short, this bill does not ban punishment for the good students, who are punished by having to tolerate the crap the unruly students engage in does it? No, of course not, good kids just have to put up with it. Guess their “privilege” must be held against them
The FBI in January received a tip to a public reporting line that Nikolas Cruz might carry out a school shooting, but failed to pass the information to its Miami field office or investigate any further, authorities said Friday.
The bureau acknowledged the startling lapse in a statement, saying a person close to Cruz had contacted the bureau’s public access tip line on January 5 and “provided information about Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.” On Wednesday, Cruz killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.
The bureau said the information “should have been assessed as a potential threat to life” and passed to the Miami field office, but was not, and “no further investigation was conducted at that time.”
In other words, the FBI was handed every single red flag possible, and they still didn’t do a blasted thing.
Why? What was so important that someone with the means, opportunity, and stated intention to launch a school shooting couldn’t be investigated?
FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement that the facts are still being investigated.
“I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public,” Wray said. “It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly.”
Blah, blah, blah. Wray sound like another politician here. Someone, screwed up, and badly. There is no excuse Tom Knighton at Bearing Arms sums up his feelings, and mine
Hell, I think I’d have an easier time swallowing this if they’d looked into it and just found the tip wasn’t credible. I could probably accept that. I’d still be upset about it, but people make mistakes like that far more often than I suspect we’d like to believe. At least the steps were followed in that case.
Here, they weren’t.
The FBI isn’t having a very good 2018, but at this point, I can’t really muster any ability to give a damn. I know there are good people who work for the FBI, and I know most agents are hard-working, dedicated public servants. Butthis is unconscionable. There is no way this should be allowed to slide.
There are 17 dead kids. There are 17 families mourning right now, and the FBI was given the information that might have stopped the murders, and they didn’t even make a phone call, apparently.
Amen. It is one thing to try and fail. But to not even try?
Last Friday, Baltimore kicked off its “Nobody Kill Anybody” weekend. The ceasefire was set to last 72 hours.
“The goal is for everyone in the city to know that Baltimore is committing to no shootings, no stabbings, etc…” the Baltimore Ceasefire’s Facebook page wrote. “No murders during the first weekend in August. WE CAN DO IT! Let’s go.”
Unfortunately, the city only made it 41 hours before a 24-year-old man was shot and killed. A few hours later, a 37-year-old was also fatally shot.
Thankfully, the final day passed without incident. However, an hour after the ceasefire ended, yet another shooting occurred.
While the city witnessed two more murders that weekend, many still considered the event to be a success.
“I would point to Friday,” Corneilius Scott of Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters told Fox News. “There were no killings on Friday and how often does that happen?”
For a city that averages roughly a murder a day, that’s pretty rare.
How are people so foolish? Do they think that violent criminals are going to stop being violent criminals for 72 hours? Why don’t they focus on longer sentences for these violent criminals? Why don’t they demand mayors that support police, rather than those who believe in giving looters and rioters “room to destroy”
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — After days of peaceful protests in honor of the 25-year-old black West Baltimore man who died in police custody on April 19, demonstrations took a violent turn in Baltimore Saturday.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake held a press conference Saturday alongside community and religious leaders and asked for peace as hundreds marched in Baltimore in honor of Freddie Gray.
But when one reporter asked to comment on how Baltimore police responded to the protesters she said she instructed officers to allow protesters to express themselves and that “we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”
So handcuffing police and allowing thugs to loot, riot and burn does not deter violent criminals? How shocking! A slew of new gun laws do not deter thugs from killing? Stunning! Lax sentencing guidelines and early release of violent felons doen’s work either? No! And now we learn that meaningless feel good slogans like “No one kill anybody for 72 hours” are meaningless as well. Wowsers! I have to ask when these mental midgets will learn.
David Burgos’ modified walker, with swiveling wheels, a fold-down seat and a sewn-on Texas Rangers cushion, was his only means of getting around.
But to the thief who stole it from his family’s North Side porch, it was just a little more scrap metal.
Now police are looking for the man who was captured on the Burgos family’s home surveillance video taking the walker from the porch early Thursday morning. The same man was captured on video the same night stealing a flag pole from Burgos’ grandparents, who live four houses down on Belmont Avenue.
Thankfully for David, who has cerebral palsy, friends and family have stepped up and donated both a walker for him to use temporarily, along with more than $3,000 to replace one of life’s necessities for the young man on the go.
