I forwarded this via Fakebook to a black liberal former coworker. I may not get it through his thick head,
but it is the small black-owned businesses that suffer most from inner-city riots. I took a day off on MLK
day to photograph his bicycle race before the MLK parade in South Central LA. He was inspired by
Lance Armstrong and established a 501C3 to inspire inner-city kids. On the drive to the event, Don
pointed a hill and said, “that’s where all the rich black people live.” I responded by telling him “Yeah,
but they are all pimps and drug dealers.” He actually got my sarcastic humor. As a field mechanic in the
industrial trades, I drove through South Central, Inglewood and Compton thousands of times.
You cannot dive a block without seeing 10 small black-owned businesses; Soul food and barbeque
restaurants, chicken joints, independent auto repair shops, junkyards, tire stores, computer repair shops,
etc. These are the people who get shit-hammered every time there are riots in the “hood!”
