Washington Nurse Arrested For Knowingly Infecting Patients With Hepatitis C – Fox News

A Washington nurse accused of infecting at least two patients with hepatitis C was arrested last week.

Cora Weberg, 31, could face second-degree assault charges as prosecutors claim she stole injectable drugs from Puyallup’s Good Samaritan Hospital, where she worked, and knowingly infected patients with hepatitis C, The News Tribune reported.

“Good Samaritan and local and state health department officials have conducted a thorough investigation and determined that one of our nurses was removing higher-than-normal amounts of narcotics from our dispensing system and admitted to diverting medications intended for patients,” the MultiCare Health System said in a safety alert last week.

The hospital system said it informed two patients treated in December 2017 by the nurse that they were infected with the disease while at the hospital. MultiCare Health System encouraged people who visited the emergency room between August 2017 and March 2018 to be tested…

.

.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a northern Chinese port city and pledged his continuing commitment to denuclearization ahead of his expected summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, state media said Tuesday.

The meeting Monday and Tuesday in Dalian is the second between Xi and Kim in recent weeks, following Kim’s March visit to Beijing – his first since taking power six years ago.

In comments carried Tuesday night by Chinese state media, neither leader was quoted as directly referring to either the planned Trump meeting or Kim’s summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in late last month. However, state broadcaster CCTV quoted Xi as saying China “supports North Korea to stick to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula…

“The two combined create a rich pipeline in all stages – early and late stage, which is very important,” Weber said on a call after the deal was announced Tuesday. “We are in a good momentum and in a strong position.”

Takeda’s largest acquisition would catapult the company into the top 10 within the global pharmaceutical industry and add drugs like Shire’s Adderall for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to its roster…

The former U.S. army private, who was held in military lockup for far longer than any other official leaker in modern times, has declared in a federal filing her intention to run in this year’s Democratic primaries for a Maryland Senate seat.

Now 30, she confirmed she was entering the race in a video posted on Twitter on Sunday under her now established internet trademark #WeGotThis. “We live in trying times. Times of fear, of suppression, of hate,” Manning said in the video dressed in black and holding a red rose…

Eric Schneiderman, Powerful NY Democrat Accused Of Violence Against Women And Drug Abuse, Resigns As State Attorney General – Fox News

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced his resignation Monday night, hours after The New Yorker magazine published allegations of physical abuse and controlling behavior by four women who had romantic relationships or encounters with him.

“It’s been my great honor and privilege to serve as Attorney General for the people of the State of New York,” Schneiderman said in a statement. “In the last several hours, serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me. While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this critical time. I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on [Tuesday].”

It was not immediately clear who would succeed Schneiderman, a Democrat who was seeking a third term as attorney general this November and had been tipped as a possible successor to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo…

Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano Destroys 26 Homes In Eruption – Washington Standard

As lava continues to spew over 200 feet into the air, homes in Kilauea’s path continue to be destroyed. The number of homes destroyed by lava shooting out of openings in the ground created by Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has climbed to at least 26, and five other structures have also been destroyed.

Authorities have told CBS Honolulu affiliate KGMB-TV that Hawaiian officials say ten fissures have opened since Thursday and some of the more than 1,700 people who evacuated prepared for the possibility they may not be able to return for quite some time.

“I have no idea how soon we can get back,” said Todd Corrigan, who left his home in Leilani Estates with his wife Friday as lava burst through the ground three or four blocks from their home. They spent the night on the beach in their car and began looking for a vacation rental to stay in for a longer term.

On Saturday, Amber Makuakane said she received alerts from her security system that motion sensors throughout the house had been triggered…

Nestle And Starbucks Strike $7.15 Billion Coffee Licensing Deal – Reuters

Swiss-based Nestle , the world’s largest food and beverage company, will pay Starbucks Corp $7.15 billion in cash for exclusive rights to sell the U.S. chain’s packaged coffees and teas around the world, tying a premium brand to Nestle’s global distribution muscle.

The agreement announced on Monday could rev up Starbucks’ roughly $2 billion business selling packaged Starbucks coffee, Teavana tea and other products through grocery stores and other retailers, including in China.

The alliance, which amounts to a licensing arrangement, frees Seattle-based Starbucks to focus on improving its mainstay U.S. cafe business, where traffic growth has stalled amid competition from fast-food chains and upscale coffee houses, while rapidly adding shops in China.

Starbucks will use proceeds to increase planned stock buybacks to $20 billion from $15 billion through fiscal 2020. It said the deal would add to earnings per share by 2021. Nestle said it expects the alliance to add to its earnings by 2019, but will not alter its share buyback plans…

Rosie O’Donnell Repeatedly Broke Federal Campaign Finance Laws – New York Post
.

.
Rosie O’Donnell made illegally over-sized campaign donations to at least five Democratic federal candidates, according to a Post analysis of campaign filings.

The liberal comedian has regularly broken Federal Election Commission rules limiting the total any one person can give to an individual candidate at $2,700 per election. The limit applies separately to primaries, runoffs and general elections.

“Nothing nefarious,” the outspoken star and Donald Trump arch-nemesis wrote in an email to the Post. “I was not choosing to over donate. “If 2700 is the cut off – [candidates] should refund the money,” she wrote. “I don’t look to see who I can donate most to… I just donate assuming they do not accept what is over the limit.”…

Sweden: Underage Schoolgirl Gang Raped, Police Don’t Want To Describe Attackers – Breitbart

Police in Sweden seeking three men who ambushed and raped an underage girl on her way home from school do not want to release their descriptions. The minor was assaulted in a cemetery at 3 o’clock in the afternoon in Östervåla, a locality with a population of just 1,600 in Heby Municipality, Uppsala, SVT reports.

The public broadcaster’s report indicates that “at least” one of the men raped her, and police investigator Daniel Nilsson confirmed the authorities “have a clear picture of what has happened and there is no doubt that the crime occurred inside the cemetery.”

Nilsson also confirmed police have a “good description” of the attackers – but say they will not disclose this description to the media while they are pursuing “other threads” despite the fact the offence occurred some days ago and they have yet to secure any arrests.

The Swedish government was one of the most enthusiastic recipients of supposed refugees at the height of the migrant crisis…

Leftist Gun Control Update: 84 People Shot In Democrat-Run Chicago Last Week – USA Today
.

.
At least 84 people were shot in the nation’s third-largest city over the last seven days, a troubling uptick of violence for a metropolis that has seen some recent success in reducing shooting incidents.

The surge in violence, which includes nine people who were fatally shot, comes as Chicago Police Department officials have expressed optimism in recent months that gun violence was on the downward trend in a city that tallied more than 1,400 homicides in 2016 and 2017 combined.

Chicago recorded a 22.3% reduction in murders and a 26.5% decline in shooting incidents for the first four months of 2018 compared with the same period in 2017, according to police department data….

Over 1,600 Detained As Anti-Putin Protests Sweep Russia – Western Journal

In a wave of rare public protests, thousands of Russians took to the streets Saturday to condemn the March election that saw Russian leader Vladimir Putin re-elected as president.

Putin, who has been Russia’s leader for 18 years, will be inaugurated Monday to begin a new six-year term. The Russian strongman’s critics have said the election he won was rigged.

Protests took place all across Russia, including St. Petersburg, not far from Russia’s western border, and Yakutsk, far to the northeastern part of the vast nation. The group OVD-Info said roughly 1,600 people were arrested in 20 cities overall.

The size of the protests was in dispute. The BBC reported that Moscow police said about 1,500 people marched in Russia’s capital. However, Reuters said its reporters at the scene estimated there were several thousand people present.

Protest organizer Alexei Navalny was among those arrested in Moscow, where protesters chanted, “Putin is a thief!” and “Russia will be free!”…

Supreme Court Of Finland: Sex Between 23-Year-Old Muslim Migrant And 10-Year-Old Girl Is Not Rape – Voice Of Europe:

Finland’s Supreme Court upheld the ruling, rejecting a request from the prosecution to appeal a three-year jail term for a 23-year-old asylum seeker who had sex with a 10-year-old saying it didn’t constitute rape.

The man is named as Juusuf Muhamed Abbudin and he was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse, which the prosecution had sought the harsher sentence of aggravated rape.

The incident took place in autumn of 2016 in the southern Pirkanmaa region near the city of Tampere. He had sexual intercourse with a girl, 10-years-old at the time, after having exchanged sexually charged messages with her.

The Prikanmaa District Court and the Appeal Court, in Turku charged the man with aggravated sexual abuse and a three-year prison sentence in 2017 saying the girl wasn’t forced into the act or overcome by fear.

The asylum seeker was also ordered to pay the girl 3,000 euros…

Leftist Insanity Update: De Blasio’s New York To Open Druggie ‘Shooting Sites’ – PJ Media

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday revealed four sites where he plans to open controversial drug-injection centers – and they are near schools and in the heart of stroller-mom territory. The proposed sites – where addicts would be allowed to inject illegal drugs under supervision – are located on the Park Slope-Boerum Hill border in Brooklyn, in Hell’s Kitchen and Washington Heights in Manhattan and in Longwood in the Bronx.

And residents are fuming. “It’s not a good idea at all. We have kids to raise,” said Keisha Brandon, a 28-year-old mother of two from Park Slope. Nobody should be able to shoot up legally. That’s saying to kids that people are allowed to do it, so it’s a possibility for you.”

Yeah, well – tough. This is what you vote for when you vote for “compassion,” “tolerance,” and “fairness.” Even former addicts think it’s a bad idea (which of course it is):

“People will line up in the streets,” said Marg Flynn, a 72-year-old recovering addict who lives near the Hell’s Kitchen site and has been sober for 33 years…

Don Gorske gobbled down his 30,000th Big Mac Friday at the same McDonald’s where he got his first taste of the beefed-up burger in 1972. “At the time it was the only McDonald’s in town and I had just gotten my driver’s license,” Gorske said, just prior to setting a new world record for “Most Big Macs consumed.”

The popular fast-food chain promoted the Big Mac enthusiast’s monumental ingestion, held at 3 p.m. under the “golden arches” on Military Road and attended by McDonald’s Fox Valley’s franchise owner D.W. Rause.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Reports Net Loss Of $1.14B In Q1 – Fortune

Warren Buffett has warned about the “ nightmare” tied to new accounting-rule changes. Now it’s beginning.

The rules, which require Berkshire to report unrealized gains or losses in equity investments in net income, helped fuel a $1.14 billion loss at Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. in the first quarter, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said Saturday in a statement. That marked the company’s first net loss since 2009.

The “requirement will produce some truly wild and capricious swings in our GAAP bottom line,” Buffett said in his annual letter to shareholders released in February. The accounting change “will severely distort Berkshire’s net income figures and very often mislead commentators and investors.”

Buffett has said operating results are a better barometer of company performance, in part because Berkshire’s more than $170 billion stock portfolio can fluctuate from quarter to quarter…

The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is calling for former Secretary of State John Kerry to be the very first person ever arrested under a constitutionally dubious 1799 law.

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) made his demand to imprison the former Massachusetts Democrat under the Logan Act, which could theoretically result in three year in federal prison.

The allegations followed a new Boston Globe report on former Secretary of State Kerry working to save the Iran nuclear deal.

Rep. Nunes retweeted the story, saying it was time to “Send in the G Men.”…

How Department Of Justice And The FBI Are Using Bogus Secrecy Claims To Protect Their Own – RedState

The FBI and Department of Justice has been engaged in a low level guerrilla war against committees in the House and the Senate… and to a certain extent the White House, itself… by withholding information that they deem to be secret. This has played out time and again.

For instance, back in January, Chuck Grassley called out the FBI and Justice for bad faith redactions of documents:

In his floor speech Wednesday, Grassley said that his efforts to declassify the memo detailing the allegations had been stymied by FBI, which he said “is falsely claiming that three of our unclassified paragraphs each contain the same, single classified fact.”

“If FBI really believed this fact was classified, then the FBI and the Department should take better care to act consistent with that belief. Unfortunately, I suspect something else is really going on here,” Grassley said. “It sure looks like a bureaucratic game of hide the ball, rather than a genuine concern about national security…
