Yet another reason to hate Statism

Oh New York and their central planning numbskulls, and the idiot New Yorkers who keep voting for them

Wherever there is a need, the free market steps in to fill it — except in New York, where senselessly micromanaging authoritarians won’t even allow pet-sitting:

Health Department rules ban anyone from taking money to care for an animal outside a licensed kennel — and the department has warned a popular pet-sitting app that its users are breaking the law. …

[Chad] Bacon, a former zookeeper and wildlife researcher, signed up for the app to help make ends meet while he was between jobs, but did enough business that he now makes his living from it full-time.

Congrats, bureaucrats. You’ve thrown him out of work. With luck, maybe you can get him on the welfare roll.

The health code bans boarding, feeding and grooming animals for a fee without a kennel license — and says those licenses can’t be issued for private homes. … Fines start at $1,000.

All a sane person can do is shake their heads at such foolishness. What business is it of the government to decide who can, or cannot watch your pet, keep your pet, or feed your pet?

Then there is Canada, Oh Canada!

A City of Toronto work crew was seen in Etobicoke’s Tom Riley Park early Friday morning, removing a staircase that had been erected by maverick local handyman Adi Astl. Construction on new stairs, Mayor John Tory promises, will begin immediately.

Astl, a retired mechanic, says he built the stairs for a mere $550 after several neighbours tumbled down a muddy slope leading to the park’s garden. The work, which only took a few hours, came after the community was told to wait for a $65,000 to $150,000 solution from the city.

“The new stairs will be safe, durable and reasonably priced,” Tory wrote.

The City estimates that the new stairs will cost $10,000. In an interview with CTV News Channel from Toronto City Hall, Tory vowed to make sure that cost estimates are more reasonable in the future.

Well, $10,000 is better than $65-150,000 but still, $10,000???
