Wes Bellamy is the vice-mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia and he must have a lot of spare time on his hands because he is leading an effort to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate monuments from city property. This is Cultural Stalinism. This is not about inclusiveness or tolerance, this is about two things. First it is about eradicating American history, and heritage. Secondly it is about dividing people and empowering pimps like Bellamy. But there is more about Bellamy that ought to be told. He has a history of being less than tolerant. The media, of course, ignored Bellamy’s racist, sexist tweets because, the narrative is all that matters. Here is how Bellamy described his efforts
“It’s a symbol, in my personal opinion, of white supremacy,” Bellamy told Crawford. “And it’s a symbol we cannot have in the middle of our city.”
Anyone who would paint a Lee statue as a symbol of white supremacy is flat wrong. They clearly no little or nothing of Lee, or his character. Historical figures must be judged according to the times they lived in, and men like Lee, who called slavery an abomination, and freed the slaves he inherited from his father-in-law and Stonewall Jackson, who ran a school educating Blacks in Lexington, Virginia were men of great character. Here is a piece written by the late Professor Edward C. Smith
One Sunday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, a well-dressed, lone black man, whom no one in the community—white or black—had ever seen before, had attended the service, sitting unnoticed in the last pew.
Just before communion was to be distributed, he rose and proudly walked down the center aisle through the middle of the church where all could see him and approached the communion rail, where he knelt. The priest and the congregation were completely aghast and in total shock.
No one knew what to do…except General Lee. He went to the communion rail and knelt beside the black man and they received communion together—and then a steady flow of other church members followed the example he had set.
This is a very telling story, it reveals the character of Lee, who Bellamy slanders. Here is more of what Bellamy says
“We’ve seen there’s still lots of issues in regards to race here in this community,” he continued, “and the only way for us to move forward is to deal with them head on.”
So, Bellamy is concerned over “lots of racial issues”. It would seem from his remarks he is more invested in perpetuating those issues
There were racist tweets, such as his comment in 2009: “I DON’T LIK WHIT PEOPLE SO I HATE WHITE SNOW!!!!! FML!!!!” And his 2010 tweet: “I really #hate how almost 80% of the black people here talk white.”
There were inappropriate and crude tweets. The same year, he tweeted: “ALRIGHT. My phone goin ham. Lol. THERE IS A DIFF BETWEEN ASS& EATIN PUSSY!!! I repeat THERE IS A DIFF BETWEEN ASS& EATIN PUSSY!”
There were also sexist posts. “I’m all for equal opportunity..but a Female Principal with a school full of female teachers is fkn a sure fire way to fk our lil boys up smh,” he tweeted in October 2011.
Well he sounds like a swell guy right? A real gem! In fact, he is a racist, and the media is giving him a pass.
