James Henderson, a 28-year-old Valparaiso man was hospitalized Saturday after he was allegedly found by police intoxicated at SEVEN times the legal limit.
According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched Saturday afternoon after a woman reported seeing a man laying on the side of the road.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man, later identified as Henderson, passed out with several bruises on his body.
When officers finally woke Henderson up, he incoherently stated that he had been hit by a truck. Police were not able to confirm that he had been struck by any vehicle.
Officers suspected that Henderson was under the influence, so they administered a breathalyzer test. His alcohol level was 0.552, which is seven times the state’s legal limit for operating a vehicle. At 0.40, a person could fall into a coma or even die.
Henderson was taken to a local hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning. When he is released, he will be jailed on charges of public intoxication. According to court records, he has a history of alcohol-related offenses.
