Obama Scrapping Missile Shield For Czech, Poland – AP
The Czech prime minister says President Barack Obama has told him that the U.S. is abandoning plans to put a missile shield in the Czech Republic and Poland.
Czech Premier Jan Fischer told reporters in Prague on Thursday that Obama phoned him to say that Washington has decided to scrap the plan that had deeply angered Russia.
Fischer says Obama confirmed that Washington no longer intends to put 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar system in the Czech Republic.
The Bush administration had said the missile shield was a strategic way to counter a threat from Iran or another rogue state in the Middle East. But Russia was deeply angered by the prospect of having U.S. interceptor rockets in countries so close to its territory.
Don’t misinterpret what I’m saying here, but isn’t building a missile defense shield in Europe, really just welfare for Europe?
I wish ’em all the best over there, but it’s about time they stand on their own 2 feet and defend themselves! I’m sick of supporting them. If they don’t have enough money for a proper military, then maybe they should give capitalism a try.
If they don’t like freedom, then let them lick the boots of their masters. I’m sick of American taxpayer dollars being spent protecting those who should protect themselves! Let ’em learn the hard way.
Well, I support helping them, and placing the defenses there, it is,I think in our interest. But, you offer an interesting take.
Does this not just give Russia free reign to do as they please, when they please to the Czechs and others that would be protected?

I fully understand the problem, I really do … But is it right to take money (by force) from tight-budgeted Americans, to spend on the Czechs?
“If you love someone, set them free” … The only reason America protects the world, is because we’re the world’s “rich.” We’re “rich” because we chose freedom, while the rest of the world chose socialism or worse.
Flip the situation around for a moment … IF Poland and the Czech Republic are really our friends, wouldn’t they step up to the plate and take care of these things themselves? In other words, instead of being our dependents, wouldn’t they, as true friends, be armed and ready to fight on our behalf?
Americans are way over-taxed as it is. Our federal and most state governments are borderline (if not already) bankrupt … If we don’t start looking out for ourselves soon, we’ll lose the ability to help our friends at all. Because if we go under, so does the rest of the world.
I don’t think it’s too much to ask of our friends, for them to properly defend themselves. Especially considering the financial trouble we’re in! And if we don’t believe in taxing the rich to give to the poor at home, then why would we support it on a globally?
